The House seems intent on luring the family back (Nell, Luke and Shirley all saw their Mum calling them home in some way). Once Nell arrived, it showed her everything she’d dreamed of coming true - her Mum, her siblings all believing her, Luke clean, and Arthur back. Then it killed her by tricking her into hanging herself. Absolutely brutal and brilliant episode of television. As for Luke, we can’t answer without spoilers. But what I took from it on first viewing was to be really scared for Luke. Nell is haunted by the future. So Luke laying there with a needle in his arm and vomit round his mouth feels like portent.
