There most likely is some historical basis for these people, but there is also so much legend and myth that gathers around them that it's hard to know what to believe. And many of the stories are probably composites of several different people.

2020-06-14 18:09:16 +0000 UTCWhether Ragnar Lothbrok really lived or not isn't really clear, but there are a number of historical figures that we DO know were real who claimed to be his sons. So it's pretty likely that he was a real person, because the people at that time would have known whether he was real or not, and called bullshit on claims to be his sons. It would be like somebody today claiming to be the son of James Bond or Darth Vader.
