Man, Steve was ON that day. He got everything right that he said out loud (I think). And Lacey's eye rolls were magnificent.

311 - Abiquiu
Podcast Notes (from Jessica's Nikki & Steven Reaction)
Guests: Director Michelle MacLaren; Editor Skip Macdonald; Episode co-writer Tom Schnauz
1. How did they come up with the flashback teaser? A: they loved Jane, & Jane & Jesse, & Kristen Ritter, and they wanted to see them together again. And they wanted to contextualize the moment Jane snuffed out the cigarette Jesse found last ep.
2. Title meaning? Abiquiu (pronounced Ah-buh-CUE) - the town Georgia O’Keefe lived in & considered her home for many years. Tom picked it bc the ep was so much about home - Jesse at home with Jane, then finding a new home with Andrea, Hank not wanting to go home, Walt trying to get back into his home.
3. The painting (“My Last Door”) - it’s not easy to get rights to a painting, particularly one of hers. They were finally allowed to have the Art dept paint a replica of the real one, the Georgia O’Keefe Foundation approved it, then they had to send the replica to the foundation after filming was done.
4. Jesse/his crew pushing in the worst way - a) he believes he’s the bad guy; b) it’s ingrained in them that this is what they do...like the guy at the end of the Hurt Locker who is determined he’s going to go back to Iraq to defuse bombs; c) Jesse hates working for “the Man”; d) self-destructiveness.
5. They don’t judge their characters, but that doesn’t mean they like what they do. These aren’t good decisions - even the writers want to shake the characters and say WTF are you doing!!!???
6. The adorable little kid (Ian Posada) who played Brock was so great. They wanted to put him in a booster seat, and he looked at them and said “No.” so they put apple boxes under the legs instead. He and Aaron interacted beautifully (Aaron always makes kids feel comfortable)...he even improvised a line & then delivered it every time - Aaron improvised the thing with his fingers, Ian came up with responding “that’s not real.”
