#307: Chatterbox 24

We are starting the New Year off fresh with some chatting and new intentions. With some of the same ol’ nonsense.

Just wanna say, Erin has always been hilarious, but she's been hitting quite a stride lately and I'm here for it!

I also prefer that your podcast is audio only. I prefer to do other things while I listen and not be tied to a video

Eloise Fox

Me too! Just got a second library card last week! Love Libby :)

Eloise Fox

I may be in the minority, but I would pay more for another weekly or bi-weekly podcast that was just Chatterbox. I could listen to these ones talk all day.

Regarding Libby — I once had library cards from two different countries going at the same time …. (Library flex???)

Evan Fleischer

James Bond!!!! And love the idea. I have been reading all the Ian Fleming books in order and then watching the movie. Wow! James Bond is an alcoholic, pill popping, womanizer!

Michael Sivey

“Inscrutable lightbulb language” made me laugh a lot.

Veronica Campbell

Me too!!

Love Libby! I hate Nothing But Trouble more than any movie. HATE IT

My comfort media is a collection of bookmarked patreon eps that I will relisten to every few weeks or if I have nothing else to listen to. Brian's Turtles, Dusty's Busted Used Cars, The Substitute, Wet Wet Waters (I miss Waleed; and Ben and Elizabeth for that matter) Valentine's Day Mixer and Reaper's Mansion with ManDogPod.

This cannot be true!!!! Hey Riddle Riddle is inducing medical problems?!!!?? No, wait, that sounds real

Janessa Steele

Is this a hot take, being ironic, being out of touch, too young, me being too old, deciding to read comments before the episode and getting a funnier joke than anything I could get from what these 3 actors could provide? Idk anymore sometimes stuff sends me to the moooooon when I dare think about what I've read 😂 noice 👏🏼

This librarian is so thankful for the Libby shoutout! When we buy a title there, it will usually only be for one checkout at a time.

All I want from my life now is for someone to refer to me as “a little ramekin filled with orange marmalade”

Also, the hosts talking about how they'd feel if they told a joke so funny someone died cracked me up bc I actually had to go to the neurologist a few years ago because I started having cataplexies (sudden loss of motor control triggered by strong emotions) when I was listening to Hey Riddle Riddle and a really funny bit got me, and one time it happened while I was driving and I was afraid I could have crashed. So my doctor was like "I don't think it's a serious condition but as your doctor I suggest you don't listen to them in the car if they're that funny." Anyway, it's all fine and I've never had a driving accident, but just thought it was funny that that was kind of possible for a bit.

The SPEED with which I would order a jersey that says "clumsy bitch" on the back

Watching the old Bond movies made me appreciate/understand Austin Powers so much more.

if you're doing penguin baseball this year you should probably start production now btw

Also re-listening to The Teachers Lounge. Love that you’ve dropped in the South Pole Santa clip, so funny.

Brian

Love it as always! Re the discussion at 38:30, I was listening to a Clue Crew in a convertible when a car clipped me at a four-way stop (btw everyone was fine and the damage was minor). In the immediate aftermath, I just kinda sat in the middle of the intersection for a dazed moment before I reached for the radio to turn the podcast off because, for some reason, my immediate fear was someone hearing the podcast thinking “wtf are you listening to?” I also had someone road chase me through a downtown while listening to the Adventure Zone, but that’s a different story.

BoredBadger

So glad that Teachers Lounge is out of the paywall! I'll be starting it today

Nicole Prochelo

The stuffed camels story sent me 😂

Shaun_qb

Great episode! Except you do know Italian and Portuguese Vegans exist, hm?

Joel Piepersgerdes

Hated tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow. I was able to put aside my annoyance that it seemed like the author didn't know what a video game was until the drama started getting soapy and I felt like I was being emotionally manipulated.

My real first and last name

Our teacher read that dead rat story to our class in the fourth grade and literally one week later that classroom started to reek of death and we had to move to a temporary room. Eventually they found a dead rat in the air vent above the classroom. I also still think about that story regularly.

Fun fact: went to high school with one of the Liautaud kids (Jimmy John’s)

I brought in korean new years soup to a potluck earlier this month and a coworker asked me if there was dog or cat in there Like dude wtf

For anyone who uses the Libby app, Queer Liberation Library is a free library card you can get, just by emailing them and you get access to lots of queer media! They are a great service and more people should use it.

Silvia Wakefield

Thanks for always bringing the funny while we collectively scream into the void 🖤

Hoopla has a bigger selection of books than Libby. And no waits. Idk how there’s no wait, but everything has been instant. (for me at least)

Kat Vincent

This is probably like recommending A Song of Ice and Fire at this point, but after finishing the TV series I picked up The Expanse books and the first one is a remarkably breezy read, even at 550+ pages. Looking forward to the remaining seven enormous books.

For amazing scifi/fantasy books, I highly recommend the Rampant Trilogy by M R Carey.

Not that JPC ever needs assurance in his stances, but I agree on the video stuff. The scenes, the audience trying to think about the riddles, there’s just too much distraction with a video that would take more of our attention. Videos are refreshing with the monthly livestreams and maybe they’d be fun for chatterboxes? Other than that we don’t need it!

Nothing's gonna ever keep you down

Flying Horseduck

I get you JPC. Thursdays were 2 for $2 big macs when I was in high school. What a time to be alive.

goobercheese

Hey jpc you should read the wilderlore series
