If you try to just pluck it out, the barbed head can fall off and get infected, but if you put a match to it, it gets scared and runs away on it's own, disconnecting safely. Hence one burns ticks off. Why balls? Um? Is there a more annoying place to have a tick? As for guns in D&D, there are optional rules for guns, but they aren't part of most of the default settings. Before the Critical Role team started streaming, they weren't actually playing Pathfinder which has a gunslinger class. When they switched to D&D for the stream, because it's more common, Taliesin (Percy's player) worked with Matt to make a homebrew D&D fighter type like his old gunslinger. Any more details than that? You'll have to watch. :-) Finally, I haven't watched the discussion yet, but did you catch the voice actors for Archie and The Duke? Hints: a hobbit and the Hound!
