#SundayRundown #Batman vs Robin Long Post alert for my boy Tim Drake. Repeating what I said on the Son of Batman reaction. The comics introducing Tim are some of the best as it shows that after losing Jason Todd, Batman was really struggling mentally and out on the field as he would take hits more often and would make a lot of mistakes. Tim who was a Batman fan and followed him on the news would notice this and knew something was wrong while I won't go into all the details, I love that these comics did a deep dive on why Robin is such an integral part of Batman and how it affects him. Tim knows that Batman needs a Robin and first goes to Nightwing to have him come back to help but Nightwing is too busy in his own city and Tim reluctantly becomes Robin to help Batman despite Bruce protesting this multiple times at first after what happened to Jason, but Tim wears him down and eventually convinces him. "Dick saw being Robin as a thrill. It's probably why he outgrew it. Jason saw being Robin as a game. It's probably what got him killed. But Tim, I have to hand it to the boy... he wants to be the world's greatest detective. And from what I've seen so far... he will be someday." -Batman #617 Variant Comics Jason always struggled with his anger, abandonment, and trust issues. Dick always compared himself with Bruce in a very unhealthy way and grew resentful toward him. Tim was always just chilling...being himself. With the Bat Family, Teen Titans, and Young Justice he's always struggling to best himself as a leader. He had no dark backstory like the others, he became Robin simply because he wanted to. I honestly believe if there was a proper adaptation of him, he would be your guys favourite or at worst second best. Some of the iconic things people associate with Robin today started first with Tim like the collapsible boa staff or the first Robin costume to have full pants on and not the underwear he used to wear. Suraj (I think it was you or Chris correct me if I'm wrong) you said you liked it whenever Ras would call Batman detective as a sign of respect well Tim is the only other person to be called that as well by Ras. I think what really sets him apart is that besides being Robin he has a relatively normal life with school, family and relationships outside of the bat family there some people who compare him a bit to Peter Parker in that sense. So, essentially Dick Greyson is arguably the most similar out of the three first Robins. Dick had his family killed in a similar manner and Batman helped him take his revenge but ultimately thought him to use favour justice over it, much like him. However, the thing about Dick that separates him is that he got over revenge, and sought justice out of responsibility, which lead him a very different path than Bruce. Dick realized this and separated himself from the idea of Batman. Robin belonged by Batman's side; Nightwing didn't. Jason Todd is the polar opposite. He owed nothing to justice and was driven by not vengeance but injustice, unfairness, and locked away emotions. He was driven by the pleasure of being the thrill, playing Robin like a game, as Batman mentioned in the Hush comic. Unlike Dick or Bruce, becoming a vigilante wasn't a reaction to tragedy but an expression. It was when he started expressing too much "getting his head in the game" so to speak, that he made the mistakes that Batman berated him for, causing it to spiral to his death. When he came back as Red Hood, in spite of becoming a killer, it was the closest thing to Batman he has ever been. It wasn't just an expression; he was now motivated by pain and revenge rather than it simply being an expression of the injustices that he felt. Tim Drake, however, did it out of responsibility. It wasn't motivated by vengeance, nor any wish to release something upon the world for pleasure. He did this out of nobility. He did it because it was right. He is arguably the most noble out of the Robins because of this. He simply wished to help, and I think that speaks a lot about his character. Since Tim is the best Robin in terms of detective work and intelligence his comics are honestly very fun and leans into that more detective side that we see from Batman now and then. What I think will really you interest is that in one of the first teen titans comics it was Tim who was leading them but because of the show a lot people automatically assume that it was Dick Grayson who was first honesty a lot of those first teen titan comics were used as inspiration for young justice, and I highly recommend them. The Court of Owls are relatively new villains (2012) and are at least in my view sorta like end game villains for Batman since by the time they arrive on the scene Batman has fought and defeated all the other villains and in his mind knows the city in and out. Thats what makes the court so good because they are such a secret for all this time initially Batman doesn't even consider them a real threat and if you enjoyed the movie you will love the comic as it really deep dives on Gotham's history, Batman's relationship with Gotham and so much more. Those Batman moments where he is helping children are so good and there are tons of comic pages where that happens wish they showed that more on the big screen as Batman is very empathetic, but I feel a lot of writers/directors miss that point about him. While I love the Batman and Talia relationship, they can never seem to keep their relationship because of differing viewpoints and various other circumstances with Selina that relationship is more natural and eventually they do get married and have a kid together by the way there are comics out there that show that Selina and Damian actually have a good relationship despite not being his actual mother. I won't go too in-depth with Damain as there are still some stories you guys will see him in but people who hate Damien fail to realize that this kid grew up in a world of violence and death. For most of his childhood that’s all he knew, and on top of that both his mother and grandfather told him that he would be future leader of humanity. It’s no wonder why he was so arrogant being in that kind of environment. That’s why what Batman says in this movie is so powerful. ‘How can you hope to lead humanity if you’ve never been a part of it?’ Damien has all this training and grooming to turn him into the perfect warrior/leader, but he fails at being a leader because he’s been denied his humanity and empathy. You can’t hope to be a great leader if you’re incapable connecting with people. Random fun fact Damian is James Gunns favourite Robin. As mentioned, multiple times here already, in the original comic it was consensual but was retconned because as the author admitted it, he remembered it wrong. The League being called the League of Shadows and Batman being trained by Ras is a unique Nolan thing. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk feel free to correct any mistakes on my part. Executives back in the day would assume that people would be confused by how many Robins there were (I see their point to a certain extent) and just chose Dick because he was the first I mean look at how long it took to get a Red Hood animated movie or Cassandra Cage being adapted on TV despite their comics being decades old.

2025-01-17 07:35:02 +0000 UTC#SundayRundown #BSG The reason why the show, and this episode in particular, seems to have Religion as a major theme running throughout it is because the original show in the 70s was heavily influenced by one of the main writers who was a member of the LDS Church. The Remake that y'all are watching removed a lot of the OVERT parallels but since religion was such an integral part of the original show it does still remain as a result. Side Note for Navi: There is a TV movie called Razor that has some dispute on "when" it should be watched. Some people say it should be watched in release order which is between S3 and S4. Other people like to insert it chronologically which would be between S2 Ep17 and Ep18. The main reason why some ppl don't like it here is because Razor sets the tone for S4 but by watching it here it might clue you in ahead of time. After S3 is the "safe" option but shows events that was at the end of S2. ALSO, there is a broadcast version of Razor that is 81 mins and an extended version that is 101 mins. Be sure y'all get the latter.

A recap of all the times they've touched on Wes's backstory: S1E14 "I've got you under my skin" - The evil possessed kid says (in Wes' voice): "All those times locked under the stairs. Not good enough for Daddy. Not good enough for the council." S2E4 "Untouched" - Wes was the one to figure out that the telekinetic girl Bethany had been sexually abused by her father, since he could relate and it was implied he had been emotionally and possibly physically abused by his father. S2E19 "Belonging" - Wes calls his father to say Happy Bday and tell him about being the new leader of Team Angel, and even though we don't hear what the dad says, he keeps interrupting Wes, and quickly sours Wes' mood with how his father was talking to him. Wes: "I just thought you'd be pro---I thought you'd want to know..." S3E5 "Fredless" - After Fred leaves with her parents, the team is talking about how great parents they were and Wes just goes into a little ramble saying: "They loved her [Fred]. They didn't grind her down into a tiny little nub, with their constant berating and....." S4E11 "Soulless" - Wes is interrogating Angelus and Angelus says: "I guess you just can't really understand that special bond between a father and son, seeing as how your own father is ashamed of you." And theres probably other small moments I'm forgetting but yea...they've been telling us about Wesley's childhood traumas for awhile now and we understand in this episode why he believed that cyborg actually was his father. The "father" was giving Wes all these backhanded compliments, followed by little jabs, and being all passive-aggressive. It made Wes revert to his bumbling, insecure self that we saw when he was first introduced on Buffy.

You've heard just about every Cylon go on about their faith and God and what it all means. But when it comes to love it becomes "did they say it", as if because it cannot really be observed it can't exist with out a direct proclomation at least.

Dick is the first Robin, Jason was the dead Robin, Stephanie/Carrie are the female Robins & Damian is the biological son. I’m hoping the DCU can help with that. YJ did a decent portrayal of Tim but he’s still in the shadow of Nightwing since he’s one of the MCs.

Lots of great touches like how Wesley instantly reverts to his previous ways when he sees his dad. (S3 Buffy Wesley). I'm glad we finally got to see something about his family dynamic. You might remember there was an episode in Season 1 (the Exorcist episode, it looks like the dad in a family is possessed but it ends up being the kid), well in that episode Wesley has a line where he says " a father doesnt have to be possessed to terrorize his children, he just needs to..." and then he stops. This episode kind of gives some insight into that dynamic now.

2025-01-16 20:48:54 +0000 UTC#sundayrundown Batman vs Robin is loosely based on a few comic runs but the main is “Court of Owls” storyline from 2011 (New 52 run), highly regarded as one of the best original Batman stories of the 21 century. the Court of Owls were retroactively introduced as a Cabal of the richest and wealthiest families in gotham (Waynes, Canes, Arkhams & more), who founded gotham in the 1800’s and proceeded to rule from the shadows for generations that Batman had no clue. in the comics they were more clandestine and most villains feared speaking of them, and most citizen ms believed the court to be a childs tale. they used Talons as their assassins. you guys noticed Talon looked like Dick, well in the comics he is Dicks great grandfather William Cobb, and dick had been groomed to be a talon from his early days in the circus before he met Bruce. its such a rich bat-story that its been reported from Matt Reeves that the Batman Part II is to feature the Court of Owls

2025-01-16 19:40:08 +0000 UTC#Sunday Rundown Batman vs Robin “I’m uninterested/Get intersted” reminded me of YJ Dick and his opposite word bit. “I’m distraught!/Well get traught!” 😂 Suraj wondered what happens with Tim Drake a couple movies ago. In comics he eventually uses the persona of Red Robin (which has its own bit of history). The reason varies a bit across the rebooted continuities. Someone else has commented a lot more lore I’m glad you guys are liking Damian this much, he tends to be an acquired taste. Maybe his Harley Quinn version softened you up to a more comic accurate version. Thankfully not too comic accurate, I gave the original story a quick look, I GET why people hate that version. But he’s improved! A lot more people like him

Hahaha The graphic novels that these are based on are amazing guys. This movie is a mix of "Court of the Owls" and the sequel "Night of the Owls" comics. The main difference is that there's no conflict between batman and Damien, they're cool by that point. Court of the Owls is great because Batman realizes that there's a lot about Gotham he didn't know, and it's humbling. He goes from "The court of owls is a myth," to "HOLY SHIT they're real, and I'm in over my head," The comic sequel "Night of the Owls" is the part with where Alfred brings out the shotgun and the batman power armor. It also has Red Hood, Red Arrow, and Starfire show up to help in the comic. Check it out.

2025-01-16 19:25:03 +0000 UTCPreach. Tim is the quintessential Robin as he is the one that fully embraced the necessity of Robin. He saw that Batman needed a Robin after Jason’s death, deduced Nightwing and Batman’s identity, and became Robin to ground Batman. He traveled the world to learn how to become a better Robin, excelled in detective work, is excellent at computers, and took up his own weapon of choice with the bo staff. He is the Robin that can most easily detach his emotions from his work and is a relatively more put together Bruce. He has some of the same traits, but he isn’t generally tortured or weighed down by them. He can be plagued with doubt but his dedication powers him to push through and constantly work on himself. I think it’s telling that Tim was the only Robin to not be an orphan (at the time). He actively made the choice to become a hero when he didn’t have to. There’s a reason Ra’s Al Ghul has only referred to Bruce and Tim as detective. This shows that Tim earned the respect of the Demon’s Head. There was even a comic story (I think it’s non-canon though) where Damian’s rivalry with Tim was revealed to be jealousy because Tim chose to be a hero and forged his own path. He didn’t experience the same tragedy as Bruce, he wasn’t killed and resurrected, he wasn’t trying to regain his family’s honor, he wasn’t born a weapon as the son of Batman and the grandson of Ra’s Al Ghul. He was a regular kid who saw Robin as his purpose. The problem with Tim is that he gets overshadowed after a resurrected Jason and Damian enter into the picture. Tim doesn’t have as simple of a hook like the former Robin turned villain/anti-hero or the son of Batman/grandson of Ra’s Al Ghul/heir to the League of Assassins. Heroes in Crisis, even saw Tim question his legacy as he had an inferiority complex because he didn’t know what he had to offer compared to his “brothers.” Like you said, Tim either gets forgotten or a lot of his elements get adopted by other Robins similar to Wally West elements getting retroactively adopted by Barry Allen in order to make Barry cooler after being dead for 20 years. Notably, Tim’s friendship with Conner is given to Dick in Young Justice. And they were the best of friends in the comics, which is something that people would associate with Dick if you only know the adaptations. Add to that, DC doesn’t know what to do with Tim after all these years and it ain’t looking good for Tim Drake fans 😂

In YJ there was an episode where the Owls appeared in S3 when they saved Terra. I get why you guys kinda clown on Tim Drake since you have a limited view of him but Tim is just as unique as any of the other Robins. For a long time throughout the 90s and early 2000s, he was THE Robin. Dick became Nightwing, Jason was still dead and Red Hood wasn’t a concept & Damian didn’t exist yet. He was the leader of the Titans, was the first Robin to get his own comic series and is viewed as the most like Batman since he’s the smartest & most detective of the main 4 Robins (he found out Bruce was Batman on his own). He’s also the reason the Bat Family is even together as a unit. He helps Batman get over the death of Jason & later takes him back in as Red Hood, gets back on good terms with Dick & Barbara and allows him to accepts other people in his circle again. He’s the one that makes Batman realize that he NEEDS a Robin to keep him in line & embraces being THE Robin or Red Robin versus trying to create his own thing. The issue is with animated and live action adaptions, he’s either forgotten to prop up a revived Jason and a new Damian (DCAMU), has some of his traits are given to Dick Grayson (TT & YJ S1). Hell, even in the Batman Animated Series/Justice League universe, he’s essentially just kid Jason Todd. James Gunn plan for his Batman movie is to introduce Damian & the Bat Family for the first time to the big screen and I hope he succeeds at properly introducing Tim. Also, was that a confirmation we’re getting Creature Commandos sooner than later 👀👀👀

2025-01-16 16:53:42 +0000 UTC#sunday rundown. if you guys like all the court of owls story. check out the game gotham knights it has a 2 player co-op story where you choose from 4 playable characters nightwing, red hood, batgirl, robin (tim drake) you get to do some really cool team combos and the batfamily dynamic is super endearing to see, i also recommend for all time playing the batman Arkham games. you have “partner” fights in arkham knight and the fight choreography is as good as this movie and YOU are literally in real time switching between being batman and nightwing. also the arkham games are just peak batman fiction so there’s that

It's identical to a human. It must have stuff like blood cells, skin cells the works. That's why Baltar's cylon detector is so important. If you x-rayed a cylon you'd see normal human internal stuff, put cylon blood samples in a microscope and you'd see normal human blood cells.

He's nervous, a bit of a klutz, and just...awkward.
