Your reaction to Spike showing up in Angel was everything. The look on your faces was priceless.
It wasn't a surprise though back in the day. We unfortunately knew (even before the Buffy finale) that Spike would go over to Angel, so his appearance here AND his heoric death in Buffy was kinda ruined.
It was the WB networks fault. They were in deep financial trouble at the time and was cancelling shows left and right, including Angel. But the idea from Whedon that they could bring over James Marsters made them advertise his arrival immediately.

Preach. The rapacious health insurance system entraps workers and sucks the soul right out of them.
It’s Wolfram & Hart to a tee.

#SundayRundown #DCAMU If you guys just read about the Flash S1 or watched it you’d realize how petty & great Reverse Flash is like he is the best villain ever & he’s my fav DC villain next to Slade & Joker & Ra’s Al Ghul. He idolized Flash a lot in his future & wanted to be him so much he copied his powers, was getting ready to save people by causing accidents to fix them then one day he’s about to do the same scheme only for the real Flash to save the people he already planned on saving. He got so angry he decided to be the villain & try to find out Flash’s identity , travels back in time to kill him as a child so he never exists but kills the mom instead cause he’s pissed future Barry saved his child self.

@Ren Davis the dark comedy of it all was the primary motivation for putting up with that soul sucking environment for 15ish years was due to medical reasons. Medical insurance was the primary motivation for being in that job. If I were to seek other employment my medical insurance would have been significantly worse. Dealing with Crohn's disease and a total removal of my large intestine, the medical insurance stuff became a trap.
That situation unfortunately is the tale of a lot of people in the US.

BSG: The callsign Crashdown that Sam Witwer's character has is showrunner Ronald D. Moore's nod to his previous show, Roswell, where the main hangout was the Crashdown Café and also the name of the main fan site online.

“…the futility of my existence in that office environment. There’s a harsh criticism of capitalism…”
With all of the current events and major topics in the news cycles, Season 5 has aged like a super fine wine. It really hits you in such a bleakly optimistic way.

I was knee deep in an office job with a cubicle when I watched season 5 of Angel. This season became my favorite season of the Buffyverse because it was the most relatable to me. That season hit hard on the futility of my existence in that office environment. There's a harsh criticism of capitalism while not beating the viewer over the head with the message.
Season 5 of Angel is great.

He truly is the pettiest, I'd argue the other one who can maybe contend with him in the DC comics is Black Manta, some fun fact events Manta pulled:
- Constantly reminds aquaman that he killed his son,
- Played all sorts of stuff to make aquaman feel bad such as playing the race card and making the crowd go against him or making Aquaman believe his autism is the reason he was evil
- He even gave up being a villain and actually lived a normal life when he thought Aquaman was dead, but the second he heard Aquaman is alive, he straight up murders everyone in his vicinity and goes back to being Black Manta.
Another person who is pretty petty is Lex: there is one story where he literally becomes a omnipotent being but the only catch is he can't use his powers to try and kill Superman....you can guess what he tried to do.
Another fun mention but isn't from the DC Universe: Thanos. We all know about his infinity war reason in the comics was to impress Lady Death, but there's another story where he basically goes to this one random regular citizen named David on his birthday every year, and proceed to ruin his birthday every single time. He did miss one year because he was fighting the Avengers but makes sure to attend his next one. His reason for ruining this guy's birthday every year since birth? no reason, just cuz fuck THIS guy in particular.

So, just how petty is the ‘Reverse Flash’ Eobard Thawne? Well, he…
- [ ] Travelled back in time and murdered his younger brother after the former arrested him and to prevent him from being a distraction whilst he was studying the ‘Speed Force’ growing up.
- [ ] Travelled back in time and murdered his parents after they tried to have The Flash Museum closed
- [ ] Developed a crush and proceeded to murder anyone who showed any romantic interest in her
- [ ] Shook said crush at super speed, crippling her and leaving her in a vegetative state for life after she showed no interest in him.
- [ ] Travelled back in time and killed Barry Allen ‘The Flash’s Mom’
- [ ] Framed Barry Allen’s Dad for said murder.
- [ ] Erased Barry Allen’s childhood friends from existence so Barry would always be lonely.
- [ ] Pushed Barry down the stairs as a kid.
- [ ] Moved Barry’s arm during a baseball game so that he wouldn’t catch the ball
- [ ] Y’know when kids say there’s a monster under the bed? Well, in Barry Allen’s case, there actually was a monster under his bed - The Reverse Flash.
- [ ] Made Barry lose his homework
- [ ] Caused an Electrical Fire that burned down Barry Allen’s home and left the back door open so that his dog ran out on to the road and got hit by a car.
- [ ] Told Barry that he planned to travel back in time and kill his mother again, only this time he would pretend to be a social worker so he could raise Barry himself.
- [ ] Oh, and you know that really emotional moment at the end of ‘The Flashpoint Paradox’ where Bruce received a letter from his dead father? Yeah… Reverse Flash tore that sucker to pieces right before his very eyes.
And to be clear, all the incidents with Barry as a kid weren’t with Reverse Flash as another kid, no no, this was a grown ass super villain travelling back in time to mess with a kid.

#SUNDAYRUNDOWN DCAMU Now that you’ve met reverse flash I gotta ask, who is the pettiest villain you have seen? They all have a deep personal grudge that ranges from the jokers hate boner with Batman to lex spending millions on fake campaigns just to annoy Superman. But for a lot of people zoom is the ultimate hater, to where the jacking off clip sounds reasonably like something he’d do. He’s even made himself so integral to the flash’s story that if he’s removed flash doesn’t exist causing reverse flash to exist leading to a big ol paradox which seems to be super speed characters favorite word.

So while the jerking off berry line is fake, the most petty thing reverse flash has done in actual comics......is grabbing berrys only friend in childhood, and just taking him out of the timestream, man is so petty he removed berrys only friend from existence so he was a lonely child

So much good stuff in Angel Season 5 if you’re a leftist or left-leaning. It’s a very honest, yet inspirational critique on the crushing power of systems and our response to their impact.

To answer your question about how Amazons breed (This is based off the comics) they would seduce and/or SA men and then murder them. Also while the girls babies were kept and raised as Amazons in some depictions the boy babies were given away or killed.

"Hope that synthetic pussy is worth it" fucking killed me! XD
In this episode CDR Adama gave the one line that has really stayed with me most of my career on why we seperate the military and the police. To paraphrase one fights the enemies of the state, and one defends the people. When the military becomes the police the people tend to become the enemy. A sentimet I think has become all too relavent in recent history.
On a lesser note as a detail for the detonator on Boomer's chair, the first time she pressed it she armed it (disengaged the safety) likely as part of her programing to maintain cover). Second time she disarmed it (after resisting her programming), but also could have detonated it from there.

#Angel
What happened was that Angel was up for renewal for S5 but the network left it late to decide. In the end they renewed it but adding James Marsters to the cast was one of the things that clinched it. Funny thing was they had already shot his death on Buffy.
And this was all out in the open in news etc so we, the fans knew as we watched his noble sacrifice on Buffy that he was coming back somehow :) Also why there was no attempt to hide his presence but they put him right in the opening credits from the start.
Also the Dixie Chicks poster was Joss Whedon showing them support as they were getting backlash over their comments against George W Bush and the Iraq war.
This is a strong opener to a strong season. Without Buffy or Firefly to split his efforts Whedon was able to devote more time to Angel and in this one, written and directed by him, it really shows.

BSG - If this was clarified during the discussion I missed it - Boomer was all wet at the beginning because her sleeper agent self dove into the water tank to set the explosives. Then her regular persona "woke up" soaking wet alongside explosives and was trying to figure out what was going on. Once the water tanks blow it reveals the full horror of what she must have done. No connection to her double on the ground running around in the rain, although I can understand thinking there's a link!

It was fun seeing you guys use your YJ knowledge and being aware of certain characters and things while watching as well.

During the briefing Colonel Tigh says water is incredibly rare in space. That's not true in real life. Water is plentiful throughout the galaxy, there's ice comets, ice asteroids, planets with oceans under ice, moons with frozen ice. Ice is super easy to find in space. Super easy, barely an inconvenience. But that would remove the drama of finding water/ice and make the stakes for the episode pretty low.
Also Helo on Caprica has no reason to be suspicious of Boomer. He doesn't know human Cylons are a thing. So he saw a hot blonde lady (Number 6) hanging out with the Cylon robots, he would probably just think that the hot blonde lady is a traitor to humanity, like a human collaborator.

Not so fun fact: Alexis Denisof actually had Bell’s Palsy before filming the Season 5 premiere. It paralyzed the left side of his face, so they opted to shoot a lot of scenes from his right and hide his left side so you couldn’t see the effects.
On to the episode, this was a great start to the Wolfram & Hart version of the show. The cast being in the belly of the beast allows the show to hone in on its core philosophy. The scene between Angel and Hauser at the end about the power of conviction was so good. Especially ending the encounter with Angel killing Hauser by kicking his shotgun up toward Hauser’s head. It was artistic murder, “murdart” if you will. It was a thing of beauty 🥹

Rana I love reading and it took many years before I finally understood but now I take Commander Adamas words to heart.
If you are giving someone a book to read, a book that you love, never lend it, just give it to them.
Its a really great little rule in life, if you love a story and you are giving it to someone to read, give it to them.
By lending it you are giving them a timetable, "enjoy this or give it back", how can someone relax and enjoy a story like that? of course giving away your treasures isn't easy but if you think its worth it if you think this person will truely enjoy the experience then you give it away.
