2024-10-30 15:40:45 +0000 UTCI'd be happy to vote for dr who next round, but its in the wrong category here anyway, for one its 1/2 hr eps and replacing a show that is 1hr long eps. Next rana and navi have already seen it and with chris and marketa largely unavailable (for a very good reason) This leaves the couch cut down to 3 (suraj, pat, spidey) at most, its just the wrong time and time slot. Now once chris and marketa are back and they can work out a proper 1/2 hour live action show time slot that isn't a "prestige" show like succession, the bear etc. then sure, but right now dr who really does seem like the wrong show at the wrong time. But next time which will be sooner then you think BSG isn't all that long then yes i'm voting for dr who.

I didn't want to watch Succession and its turned out to be one of the best shows I've ever seen. I wasn't interested in Frieren and same thing it was amazing, one thing that I've found with this paetron is going outside my comfort zone I've found incredible stuff I would've never considered, and that's because of the polls voting for things I would've never watched otherwise

Even Quentin Tarantino freaked out when he saw one of the actors of the show in L.A. He thought that the actor being there instead of shooting at Vancouver meant that his character was about to die in the show. Also, Spike eventually was cast in a BSG spin-off.

Doctor Who is very safe which is the core of British "science fiction". It's easily digestible entertainment. It's extremely British which is a huge problem if the viewer wants at least some semblance of "hard science fiction". When watching it, I've always viewed it in the realm of Star Wars because it doesn't scratch any real science fiction things that interest me as a science fiction fan.

Out of all the space science fiction, BSG relies the least on its setting in space as being a primary storytelling plot point. At its core the series is a human drama and the space science fiction elements are secondary.

I didn't watch Dr Who either because the CGI seems a little cheap for my taste, never saw Fringe but I heard only positive things about it, Interview With A Vampire is amazing but it has a small fandom so unfortunetly it won't win, and now TVD, one of my favorite show, a good follow up to Buffy, so I'm choosing this.

Julie Plec was churning plot like crazy. The show managed to burn through what could be a seasons worth of story in just a few episodes. Seemingly every episode was packed to the brim with gasp worthy moments. The shift that came following the forth season finale badly hobbled it. The longer it went on the show descended into a parody of genre television. Character deaths became more & more meaningless, alliances shifted frequently & characters hung around way past their sell by date. Another shift following the end of season six was the final nail in the coffin. It was a shell of the glory years by that point. Unfortunately hobbling to the finish line was entirely too common of an occurrence with CW shows.

Also with 12 Monkeys tv show, while its premise was great its execution was sloppy trying to live up to the god tier movie it was based on. After a while the series lost itself in the plot to absurdity. It was entertaining but is just okay standard science fiction that's fun to watch on your downtime. If one wants to watch a mind-blowing science fiction piece of entertainment involving the "12 Monkeys" story, stick to the movie. You'll be disappointed with the series to the point it feels like wasting one's time.

2024-10-24 16:49:42 +0000 UTCthe vampire diaries gets a very negative reputation i think because it came out during the vampire craze of the early 2010s and aired on the cw which is not known for putting out nuanced shows to put it nicely, as someone who has watch TVD multiple times the main thing to take away from the show is that it's about loss, it's about coping with and living beyond intense loss and finding ways to move through grief whether they be good or bad, yes there's a tropey love triangle yes there's some unnecessary drama it's a cw show but the girth of the narrative is in journeying through loss with the characters and growing with them beyond pain I will die on the hill that TVD is at its core a beautiful story about loss, grief, and finding the will to live through it

BSG is a great show, but I don’t know if this crew, with their style of reaction will catch all the subtleties, philosophical influences and political commentary on the show. The same way they missed most of it while watching Buffy. Not that they are not smart, but they are so easily distracted. The same goes for Fringe, one of the best show out there, but not a good match for this crew. So many hints in each episode, cleverly written plots, blink and you miss it in the background. Frankly it requires repeat viewing. Anyway my choices were BSG, FRINGE and DrWHO but only for the ninth and tenth doctor.

Doctor Who has had multiple "endings" since 05. YMMV on how much each of them worked for you. I've tried to watch BSG several times & never got further than the second season. It just never hooked me. Whereas a show like Twelve Monkeys had me hooked from the pilot. I also feel like some of the strengths of the show were better executed elsewhere: the handheld shooting style works better in Firefly & the Cylon trope works better with the Actives on Dollhouse. The concept of the Doctor Who really allows for some really interesting experimentation in & outside the genre. I understand Doctor Who isn't everyone's cup of tea. For me though it's the more compelling show by a significant margin.

Bear McCreary made a name for himself composing the score for all four seasons of BSG and has some of the best composed original music ever put to a television show. The quality is comparable to Ramin Djawadi's phenomenal work in Game of Thrones. The BSG soundtrack is still one of my most listened to things on spotify.

TVD just shows the genre is played out and was already played out before TVD even premiered. Even in the 90's the vampire stuff was overstaying its welcome. Aside from Fringe, it will probably offer the best post-reaction discussion out of all the series on the poll. Dr. Who is okay but the series has drastically fallen off in terms of quality and others on the couch have already seen it. It would be pretty amazing if they reacted to Fringe before the Blindwave crew does.

BSG is great, I am old enough to remember the original series and feel the remake did the OG a justice. Fringe I havent seen but mean to. OG Who was good, Ecclestone was meh, Tennant and Smith were great, anything after Smith is a dumpster fire. Interview with the Vampire......HAHAHA! Thats really all that can be said for that.

It is a very smart show that deals with pseudoscience... theories that could happen if the real science rules were slightly bent. I really enjoyed that show! I've seen and liked both shows, but imo Fringe is soooo much better for you guys in terms of enjoinment and reactions, it is one of those shows that kinda went unnoticed by the masses but it has such a high quality.
