I haven't seen this arc since it came out. While I remember the main points of it and that I didn't like it overall, I'm sure there's plenty of little details I don't remember and hope to appreciate more now. Should be an interesting rewatch with you guys.

#SUNDAYRUNDOWN Bleach well you’re now on your way to what for many people was the low point of bleach, a winding down was needed after the crazy ending of the arrancar arc a lot of people didn’t care for it but I hope you guys will give it a chance and try to enjoy it as much as you can. Also if there’s one thing tite kubo is consistent about its tits, knockers, double D's
Fun bags, hooters, chest puppies
Boobs, melons, jubblies, Chesticles, mammaries, Milk jugs, big breasts, Shoulder boulders.

So the main reason a lot of people dont like this arc is because it is such a drastic change from the previous arc and the story in general that we have been following. It quickly goes from Soul society and fighting Aizen for pretty much the whole series to an arc with new characters, no more aizen, not as many previous soul reaper characters around, etc.
In retrospect though and after seeing the entire series, i do enjoy this arc and what it offers. Its a nice mystery, cool new power system, nice payoffs. Hope you guys enjoy it.

I'm SUPER HAPPY that y'all are enjoying the Fullbring arc. I was in the camp of non-enjoyers upon first watch, and indeed, it's still my least favorite arc, mainly because I still don't think the Fullbringers themselves are all that interesting, and I still think they're designed like filler characters. 😛 That said, I've ALWAYS appreciated what this arc means for Ichigo, and how it explores his character in a deeper, more introspective way than ever before.
As has been said already, the BIG reason everyone saw this arc as a letdown when it aired is because...this is how "BLEACH" ended. We were getting no more after this. Like, imagine if at the end of AOT season 2, all the plot-threads and character arcs that would've gone into season 3 were, instead, left hanging and the show half-heartedly fabricated a semi-definitive ending that the manga didn't have, and then...we're just done. Season 2 isn't bad, but your attitude would probably sour on it at that point. Thus was the case with "BLEACH". We certainly appreciated that, because they knew they would end things here, they were able to scrape together some kind of ending instead of just letting things hang, but it felt like the show ended with a whimper rather than the bang it deserved. (Which is why the Gotei 13 Invasion arc is so explosive and elaborately animated to make up for it. *wink wink *)
HOWEVER, now that we have TYBW, people can (and do) go back and truly appreciate this calm-before-the-storm arc for what it was always meant to be...and now is. ☺️

Tbf i think a lot of people have come around in recent years and the Fullbring arc is more well liked then it used to be. Still a large chunk of people that don't like it, but i think opinions on it have swayed the opposite of what they were when the arc first came out, generally anyway.

Fullbring arc has lot of mixed opinions on it and it gets a lot of hate. From what I've seen and gathered this is people's main gripe with Bleach but me personally I love this arc, it's animated so well plus we dive into Ichigo's psyche. Kugo Ginjo's voice actor is Travis Willingham also voiced Mustang (FMAB) etc

#SundayRundown for Bleach. Travis Willingham voices quite a few characters in Bleach. Most notably: Kugo (who you've just been introduced to), Love Aikawa (the Visored) and Charlotte Chuhlhourne (the Arrancar who had a battle of beauty with Yumichika - peacock boy Squad 11)
Also repost from last week:
I think the fullbringer arc gets a bad rap because it came after all this amazing finale stuff for the aizen saga, and then immediately after the fullbringer arc ends it got cancelled. And because the fullbringer arc is the introduction to the TYBW saga, it felt slow, low stakes and out of place. Because it's a new beginning. But I think it will flow better for you guys going straight into TYBW plus it contains very important information! I hope you enjoy it

#sundayrundown This arc is my favourite and highly underrated by the fans back then but after watching it again as adults we understand it and enjoyed it,this arc it's different we always saw Ichigo as the saviour who's about to go to save everyone but her he's powerless doesn't know who's the enemy and what he wants ? It feels like he's be back at the same moment when his mom died Infront of him and he couldn't do anything, it was sad watching him getting tortured psychologically.

quick note. Tite's name isn't pronounced "tee- teh" it's pronounced "Tight". I used to pronounce it the same way because phonetically for Japanese that's how it reads... but the spelling of his name in Japanese is actually 久保 (Taito). it's a pen name he chose and he liked the way the English word "tight" sounded or something or other XD

BLEACH #SundayRundown
This arc is my second favorite behind TYBW, it has a more grounded mysterious thriller element to it. I’m sure you’ll also notice the pacing, animation, art is MUCH better due to them adapting like 4 chapter per episode. This arc perfectly matches Kubo’s artstyle in the manga. I’ll even say the anime version of this arc is better than the manga, unlike the previous arcs which the manga was better.
Glad you guys are enjoying this arc, the reason it gets hate is mostly shonen heads not liking it because it isn’t just fights so they’ll call it “boring” and dislike the tonal shift. There’s lots of storytelling elements, character writing, nuance and even a more psychological/ horror aspect that makes this arc really distinct from the rest.
Ichigo's drive to protect isn't simply a heroic shonen protagonist thing, it's a coping mechanism for him not being able to save his mother was the worst moment in his life where he blames himself, to the point of self hatred. The anime left this out but he was actually so depressed he wanted to kill himself after Rukia left to be executed in the Soul Society. This is why when he gets left out aka feels powerless he becomes angsty, to him it's his responsibility and he NEEDS to do it or else he can't live with HIMSELF. His personality was shaped from his mother's death, Tatsuki even noted at the beginning after his mother died "Ichigo stopped smiling".
Lastly others have also said it but I'll keep saying it you guys are NOT ready for Thousand Year Blood War arc I’ll put it this way TYBW is Bleach’s Chimera Ant arc but I feel like that still doesn't do it justice. I just call it PEAK FICTION

See THIS right here is the comment I needed. I rewatched the scene after I read this comment and you're absolutely right. I was completely oblivious to his facial expressions, but it's all right there! And your note on the insult was also enlightening. People who are secure with themselves don't as easily take the bait when they're goaded. I appreciate you taking the time to comment! ^_^

I keep seeing the “Scared vs Emasculated” discussion pop up on Reddit so it’s not the most unpopular opinion lol, definitely worth discussing!
For what it’s worth, I think you can’t really reverse the gender roles in this situation because gender roles are kinda the point as I see it, as they frequently are in this show

How I see it: I think it’s a bit of both, but I’m Team He Was Emasculated. He could have stopped fighting if he was scared, but he wasn’t—he was mad. Naked steel doesn’t really mean the same to trained warriors, and he could have put the sword down, but he charged in anger at a clear pause. It’s true that Mizu shouldn’t have insulted him where it hurts, but that made him mad, not scared, ya know? And besides, he then sold the horse and effectively ended the marriage, not because of what she did but because, as he said, “you ARE a monster”. And on a meta note, the episode is about the betrayal that could have been from either of her loved ones. She ends the episode thinking they’re both right and she’s a monster but we are meant to think otherwise.
Edit— and just as a general note, his face reads more angry and disgusted than scared or offended, especially after the kiss

But he didn't give any other indication of feeling emasculated. Like I'm totally willing to concede the point, but the show didn't show anything at all that would indicate he felt emasculated. It just showed his reaction to "Holy crap she could have literally killed me right now." Like he very plainly asked her to stop because the fight was getting dangerous. She kept pushing. Was there some other sign I missed? I'm totally not trying to just trample all over your comment; I'd sincerely like to hear your perspective on it.

I said this in another reply, but it can be true that Mizu pushed too hard AND that he was emasculated and reacted the way he did because she is a woman. It doesn't just have to be one or the other. Both things are happening.

More than one thing can be true at once. It can be true that Mizu was pushing too far because that's in character, AND it can be true that he felt emasculated. It doesn't just have to be one or the other.

Nah, I don't think that's an unpopular opinion. The knee jerk reaction is to side with Mizu. She's our protagonist. But I think the show was very intentionally trying to show us that she took that sparring match waaaaaay too far. Does it excuse him if he was actually the one who turned her in? Absolutely not. But I think his reaction in the moment was completely understandable.

EDIT EDIT: Yeah, y'all talked me around. The show absolutely gives evidence. I wasnt seeing the forest for the trees. 😅
EDIT: Anything Im about to say about Mikio does not absolve him of ratting mizu out or stabbing her mother, whichever of those he is actually guilty for(i love the fact they keep it ambiguous). Im just talking specifically about the "sparring match".
Errrrr Guys i think you might have misread the situation and there miiiiight be a little bit of a double standard there since mizu is our main character and its easy to see things from the point of view of the main character. It didn't have anything to do with Mikio feeling emasculated. If the show had done something to actually show that then i could totally see it. But it didnt really give any evidence of that. Mizu took that WAAAAAY too far. Imagine if you get into a tickle fight with your partner and they get heated and punch you in the face. How are you going to react to that sudden escalation? He asked to stop and she basically said, "Do you smell that? It smell like bitch in here." She then proceeded to bare a naked blade to his THROAT. Anyone would be mad about that. I know Mizu is our protagonist and we like her, but she was absolutely in the wrong in that specific instance. I don't care who you are, if you put a blade up against my throat for any reason, we're fighting.

Episode 5 of Blue Eyed Samurai really hits home on part of what makes the show so interesting, and the crew hit on it at the end of the episode -- Mizu really isn't a good person, and it kind of goes beyond the choices she made at the end of the brothel fight.
This will probably be an unpopular opinion, but if you reversed the gender roles in the flashback, I think we'd see Mizu's character a lot differently. Imagine a case where a male character started a friendly sparring session with a new bride, and then unsheathed his blade and continued attacking even though the bride was uncomfortable and wanted him to stop, and he was clearly shown to be getting off on the escalated levels of danger. In that scenario, I don't think anyone would question the bride running away and calling the husband a monster. Of course, that's not the only thing happening in that scene, clearly his pride was injured as well.
But it's a good example of how Mizu's lust for combat and revenge had already become her first priority and she was willing to put it ahead of anyone and anything else. She's walking a path of destruction and time will tell if she can manage to spare her own life from her destructive habits.

The mystique of this arc is great, but in hindsight it makes me so frustrated that nobody talks to each other lmao. Ichigo is put in a position where his supporting structures become untrustworthy and decides to take matters into his own hands. The anime does a great job with the pacing, it really dragged in the manga, and considering this was directly after Aizen's defeat, it was quite the whiplash. Carry on theorizing about where this all leads though, it's fun to watch and it reminds me of the discussions I was having either online or with my friends over what is actually happening here. Oh and defo watch the opening if you haven't already, said the same last week but there's a sequence which got me really emotional. You'll know when you see it if you haven't already. Peace out and god bless mommy Ikumi.
