I've got to deliver the truth of the 'Bus' story line as it's one of the smartest plot lines this series delivered. The fact is, when the show started, they made it so that a random school bus would show up when needed, in order to follow the comic trope that said a random school bus would be threatened. It's rather basic, but it follows classic 1950s storytelling. The fact is, the story writes realized in season 3 they'd made an accidental storytelling with the random school busses, and in season 4 they'd made it cannon.

It annoys the fuck out of me that captions today still say "speaks Chinese," as if there aren't multiple languages in China, none of which are called Chinese. It's like saying "speaks American," or "speaks Indian," or "speaks Mexican."

I also came across of a theory that the First came back because Buffy was put back into the slayer line, and then there would be two slayers.

I love how "this particular Slayer is old" is true because she's lived longer than most other Slayers, but she's still only 21/22, so not actually "old", not even close lmao. Being a Slayer is generally a short lived job!

I dont have any info directly from the show but I mean it makes a lot of sense. I think that Xander saving Buffy in s1 was a loophole in the prophecy, something so mundane as a mere mortal giving car cpr kind of falls within the lines of the 'grand design'. The Slayer falls, another rises and that slayer practically switched teams so I think both sides just called it even.
But an super powerful witch using sketchy magic ripping open reality and yanking buffys soul out of heaven was way more than a loophole.

So trying to turn Angel into Angelus he needs a moment of "perfect happiness" but with everything that has happened since the end of Season 2(darla dying, connor born ,holtz back,w&h usual antics, cordy higher plane and back plus sleeping with connor) he was no where near the good headspace for any kind of happiness. So what Wo-Pang did was help resolve all the issues Angel was dealing with in a dream state helping him get with Cordy and essentially living the moment of "perfect happiness" .Such a brilliant episode!!!

LOVED watching yall reacting to that twist in Angel. It really was too good to be true. I remember being suspicious by this time-lapsey crumbling of the Beast and Sun reappearing during the first watch. That was OFF. Aw man! The only time at this point in this season where Connor had a likable scene and it was fake!

#SundayRundown (Buffy and Angel)
“I always find a way. I’m the thing monsters have nightmares about.”
This line right here encapsulates the difference between Buffy and Angel. Buffy is about overcoming fears and anxieties. Angel is about enduring hardship because the fight itself is the critical part. Not the win.
Buffy teaches us that we can move past the traumas that hold us back. We can be greater than what we suffer. Angel teaches us that life has meaning in the rebellion against meaninglessness. You may not win, but the choice to fight is what defines who you are.
This is why both shows need to be watched together. They are two halves of one whole message.

#SundayRundown-Buffy. Ok, these are probably going to be some unpopular opinions, but I just had to get these thoughts out and I will try not to sound unhinged. 😅 I watched Buffy when it first aired many moons ago and remember waiting to wait each week to watch it. I turned out to be a really big fan of the show, and like everyone who watches, formed some pretty strong opinions about the show overall- the storyline, the characters, etc. My husband and I have gotten in several heated disagreements over these opinions lol.
So, I really don't understand why everyone on the couch seems to like Cordelia so much, even going back to Buffy when she first appeared- as a bully......I remember everyone always commenting how they liked Cordelia and laughed at her lines. Now, I am not saying she is not a great character and that her dialogue is funny at times, but I don't understand the leniency they gave Cordelia. I mean, I don't know about anyone else, but I was bullied in gradeschool and high school and I give it 0 stars. Any other time we see side characters in the show being a bully or an a-hole, there is a general consensus that that person sucks. The point is, I understand that she eventually (sort of) made amends and owned up to the fact that she was a bully. But IMO she never really completely apologized for it and shunned who was was before. I remember a scene where she said that she was cruel before but something like she didn't apologize for being a b****. I am probably remembering that wrong, I think it was a scene with Lyla.
When Cordelia started becoming less awful and started to grow as a character and be a better person, of course I was happy and thought it was great character progression. When we get to the part where someone calls her a champion not too long ago (forget who) I hard rolled my eyes at that. I haven't seen these seasons of Angel for so long and had forgotten about it. But I mean, come one, a champion??! Warrior, team member, fighter of course, but CHAMPION? Angel and Buffy are champions and I would not put Cordelia anywhere near their level. Of course my extreme bias is showing because I always loved Buffy more and absolutely hated the love story line with Cordelia and Angel. Ugh. Never thought she was even near Buffy's level to be with Angel......Again, my bias is showing haha.
Lastly- had to throw this in because there is so much hate towards Connor. I know, I know he can be annoying for sure, what teenager isn't? But come on, let's give him a little more grace. He is a teenager who was stolen away from a loving father and safe world to be brought up my a cruel man who twisted his mind against Angel(us) in a nightmare hell world with monsters trying to kill you with no safe place to call home. I mean, if that doesn't mess up your mind as an impressionable kid growing up in a terrifying world with this man that keeps you safe and says he is your father and never had a real childhood, I don't know what would. Of course he shouldn't be excused for all his behavior but just wanted to point out how messed up he is and how he honestly kind of has a right to be. He is placing all the blame for all the cruelty and heartache in his life on Angel because he has no one else to blame. It's not right, but just wanted to give a reminder that he really has gotten the shitty end of the stick for so much of his short life. Dawn was way more annoying and I felt she had way less of a reason to be. Welp, I did not succeed in not sounding unhinged. And I'm done. Gotta go. bye.

(Angel)
What I love about Awakening is that it mostly works as an episode, but is only twisted slightly towards happy ending that we can sense something is off.
It’s the kind of heroic episode that is usually incompatible with this show where evil is firmly defeated and all the good guys get a happily ever after. But it’s able to do that without feeling over the top.
Love that.

#SundayRundown (Young Justice): Episodes like this is why I really grew to love S4 and appreciate how differently they structured this season. From the story, development and lore… the writers should really be commended for what they did in making these 4-5 episode arcs feel important. The running gag with the bus is hilarious and such a lay up to use in the magic arc of that show lol. I’m glad we’re seeing & learning more about her Zatanna’s dad Zatara & Child might be the most pure evil character in this series lmao.

Cool! I always love pointing out that fact, because its a great demonstration of the show's attention to detail and careful planning. I remember watching live and thinking it was strange that the kids looked the same in s2 and 3 when they showed up again, but like everyone else just thought it was a joke. Knowing it was planned a long time ago adds a whole other layer!

its a "perfect" episode in the sense that its everything you think you want, trials and tribulations, twists and torment but in the end it all works out everyone is happy, the good guys internal conflict is resolved, the big bad is defeated.
Its very clever, loved how the couch started to question then went along for the ride and then at the end the couch is going
"wait this isn't right its too good something is off here"
Because Angel (the show) can never have a perfectly happy ending if their is it must mean something is terribly wrong.

#SundayRundown, Young Justice.
A long time ago I commented saying that if you ever find yourself asking if something in the story was planned ahead of time or not, that the answer is always yes. That applies to a lot of things in the show, but it was in fact also referring specifically to everything with the school bus. This wasn't a choice they made because they thought it would be funny, this was something they did deliberately, and had planned to do from very early on.
cosmotron
2024-09-05 18:43:44 +0000 UTC
It's a bit incorrect to say that they "took" this meme and turned it into this, when the truth is that this was among the things they had already outlined and planned long ago. There are interviews where the writers talk about this fact.

The brief moment of silence from you all, as you realise the whole thing was an illusion in angel's head, was great. Also, I just have to say that The writing for this episode is (imo) very clever, because it's just unrealistic enough to make you question the convenience of it all but also realistic enough to be believable and still shock the audience when the reveal happens at the end.

Navi is correct about burn offs, being from victoria in australia we have fire season, every few years its a really bad one, the foliage builds up and then explodes, our firefighters and the ones from california help each other out. As our summers and winters are reversed of course the cali forest firefighters come and help our guys out during our forest fires and then our guys go and help them during theirs. Also no its not always people or pyromaniacs who cause them it just happens. Oddly tying into DC to quote Ra's al Ghul the fire is natural and inevitable.

part of it was just a callback I guess, he said Buffy in exactly the same way last time. The scene is played out almost exactly the same as s2 when he lost his soul, if you want an in show reason I always thought it as his final cry for help knowing whats happening like he's begging for help. #SundayRundown Angel - The true happiness twist at the end was brilliant. Y’all fell for it just like we all did. It was interesting to see how Angel’s purest happiness was more complicated when previously all he needed was to be with Buffy.
One question I still have is why Angel called out Buffy’s name the moment he felt himself changing into Angelus? 🤷🏽♀️

#SundayRundown To be fair, I think Earth is the one thing Vandal Savage cares about. He just can't do anything. With Klarion he was literally managing Chaos. He also tried to get Nabu involved from the start. The man has spent centuries entertaining a bored child with the power of a God.

Soooooo Felicia Day is not on critical role, but she is partly responsible for critical role being a thing. She did one guest appearance on a CR live stream and she provided voices for nameless characters in the legend of vox machina. Chris definitely recognized her from Doctor Horrible's Sing Along Blog. She's a pretty big name in the nerd scene.

#SundayRundown YJ: So to confirm, that bus has always been there. It was in fact a meme in the community that in what seemed like (and likely was) a budget saving move, every time a bus appeared, they reused the same footage. But there was more to it than that. People joked that was the unluckiest bus ever in season 1. When they reused the same footage in season 3, which was 8 years after season 1 in the Bowhunter Security episode, and it was the same kids... it became a meme in the community.
This next section was reminded to me by another commenter Cosmotron! However this was a planned subplot that was meant to extend over seasons, there was always a reason why it was this bus, these same kids, instead of just reusing footage and not doing anything with it, they had a planned reason for it and a story that only took shape in season 4, when the story got to that planned point. They took what was assumed to be a cost saving move and a meme in the community... and made it make total sense within the world of the show, and make it one of the most wild but also hysterical twists that the show has ever done.

Sunday Rundown for Buffy!
The Watchers Council was a similar organization to Wolfram & Hart. Wolfram oversees Evil on Earth and the Council 'Watches' and counteracts where they can. They study Evil like the Maesters at the Citadel. The Slayer is a powerful weapon in their arsenal, but she isn't their only weapon. Plus this particular Slayer is old, opinionated, and on the opposite side of the world. So they don't reach for her often.
I assume they have a whole department dedicated to uncovering potential Slayers. If they find a particularly likely girl, they send her a watcher. Train her in advance, in case she she gets chosen. Safer for everyone, and beneficial for the Watchers to already have a roll in a new Slayers life.
