I think the movie had a hard time balancing little kids and being too dark. Honestly imagine if they made it super gritty and chilling... would be one of the best received films from adults (and give kids nightmares)

Also, the reason why Tom Riddle/Lord Voldemort is still the Heir of Slytherin is because he is not a Muggle-born "Mudblood" like Hermione; while not a pureblood, he is still a half-blood, just like Harry. Lord Voldemort still has that magical blood in him through his mother, and he despises his father, Tom Riddle Senior, because the latter was not magical like Voldemort's mother. So that half-blood heritage still grants him the Heir status, since he is still a descendant of Salazar Slytherin. And while Slytherin wanted the Muggleborns killed, even he would be terrified of what is own One True Heir, Lord Voldemort, has grown to become.

2023-11-13 16:09:59 +0000 UTCPat you'll be happy to hear that in the book Mr Weasley does throw punches at Lucius Malfoy in the bookstore but they changed it for the movie :). I'm actually excited for the new show. I like the movies but my emotional attachment is to the books and I think there was a lot of wasted potential there. They changed the characters quite a bit in the movies and I wasn't a fan of the screenwriter. I'm interested in seeing a different interpretation especially since it's supposed to be more faithful to the books. But I do still enjoy the movies and watching your reactions is really fun.

2023-11-11 23:58:53 +0000 UTCOh, and to clear the confusion on Hagrid and use of magic outside of Hogwarts: Hagrid was allowed to learn and use magic again after he was proven innocent in the Chamber of Secrets. Prior to the events of the Chamber of Secrets, Hagrid was expelled from Hogwarts as a student and had his wand snapped in half, which prevented him from performing magic legally. However, when Dumbledore would send him to do a task, he got permission. Rana was right in there being rules, but it’s more of a straight up law: Underage Magic outside of Hogwarts is illegal. If I remember correctly, they have to be like at least 17 or 18 to use magic outside of school with no consequences. 💙

Personally, I think there’s plenty of potential to make much better adaptations of the story with a longer total runtime at their disposal.
