Exactly. Issa got a lot of screen time as president.

Oh God. Just because she's white or the film has feminist tones doesn't make that a strike against the film. They''re diverse because Barbie toys are diverse. They address several times that she's stereotypical. Imagine Sasha going off on Issa (PRESIDENT Barbie) about how she ruined little girls confidence, before she even existed. It's common sense to follow the OG Barbie. You don't have to be poor to speak out against capitalism or own your shit as a company. The film is clearly about diversity of thoughts and ideas. This is a poor critique. Getting off my soapbox too.

There are some men out there that are so fragile that they can't even handle when a movie about a girl's doll isn't about them.

Films being nominated for "Oscar Best Picture" isn't the same as being "Oscar worthy". I define an "oscar worthy film" is any film that deserves to be nominated for an Academy Award. That encompasses a big umbrella of award categories beyond just Best Picture.
In this film, the okay story had no bearing on the performances of the actors nor the quality of the production. Having a good story is not mandatory for a film to win technical or acting Academy awards and there have been many films in history where an actor/actress as well as the technical stuff was nominated for an award when the films story was pretty mediocre (see Elizabeth: The Golden Age). There are also a lot of films that have been nominated for best picture because they're extremely good on the technical aspects despite the story being mediocre. Godfather III, Shakespear in Love (won best picture over Saving Private Ryan), and Crash are glaring examples showing the voters like director and production porn; not necessarily good storytelling.
"Barbie" is going to be nominated for a lot of awards at the end of the year for various things and get several Oscar nominations. It will probably be nominated for best picture because it's a weak year in film thus far and up to ten movies can be nominated for Best Picture. Its "weakest" aspect won't hurt it at the end of the year for awards but it's not going to win "Best Picture".

People complaining about a doll movie being woke and feminist when everything about the doll is female centered lol

Suraj being so sure Alexandra Shipp was Zoe Kravitz was pretty funny. And it's Rhea Perlman not Rita as Barbie's creator. Also it was worth it for Spidey asking, "How they got outta jail, oh yeah they white"

You're kind of proving my point. Having a good story/plot is kind of mandatory for an Oscar Best Picture nominee so I don't know why you think Barbie should still qualify when you even admit it was one of its weakest aspects?

Mattel founders had two kids, Barbara and Ken. Then their daughter married a guy named Allen. Hence, the names of those dolls.

^This film is Oscar worthy. It's very well done on all the technical stuff. The directing was top tier. Ryan Gossling and Margot Robbie each deserve award nominations for their acting. For me, the weakest part of the film was the story but there were a lot of individual things in the film that were really well made and should deserve nominations.

Uh the Barbie movie was good but I wouldn't say it's Oscar worthy...?
But then again the Joker was also nominated for an Oscar so I guess anything's possible

Bring me up a bottle coca cola and a large pizza, I could try to chill with you sunny days
Or we could snuggle on a rainy day together, just hold my hand, trust me and follow me
I’ll give you beautiful days and nights" now you cant say you were never cat called mister sexy brown

everything rana ranted about at the end: thats so not just a woman thing. i've experienced all that EXCEPT cat calling but i've been groped several times cause everybody loves a bbc.............but yeah, i've held leadership roles before and folks would try to undermine me and not im "mean" cause im telling them to do their job or telling them the right way to do it. had one employee "go on a lunch break" and never come back lol oh crackheads....A MESS! we had a good laugh about that one. the big boss was going to fire her anyways cause she wasnt doing her job. in her mind i was a bitch when in reality if she would have listened to me she would have kept her job. oh humans le sigh

i liked the movie but didnt love it. can do without the whole human world crap (lame, boring. if i want to see "reality" ill watch friends not a FANTASY film). everything in the human world was drab, with everyone wearing dark blues, blacks, greys and other muted colors (except for america's character) which is not only depressing but so not real. WHERE ARE THE COLORS!? only barbieland apparently, even more reason why we shouldnt have left. also, if we stayed in barbieland all the supporting characters could be actual characters instead of glorified extras with no arcs of their own or personality outside of their barbie brand. my biggest problem is its not a musical: DISAPPOINTED! them having musical/dance numbers in the film was just adding salt to the wound. this would have been so much better if it was all in barbieland, a musical and ends with ken finding his self worth and barbie falling in love with him (and them finding asian ken so simu liu can BACKOFF). also, obviously gay black ken would be OUT AND PROUD and get with light skin black ken. and then they all live happily ever after in eternal love, pink dreams and magical flying stars sigh. i commend the movie on all the creativity in barbieland and respect to the brand of barbie with all the homages and fanfare with the different barbies/kens over the decades. reminded me of the barbie web series where they have fourth wall breaking and acknowledgement they are dolls like when barbie's car breaks down and she gets out and puts in a new D battery to make it work again lol CLASSIC. and of course they should have made things right with Aqua so they and the their song could be int he movie. that would have been an EPIC musical number. the choreo, costumes and sets are just springing to mind instantly. i also didnt like that i walked away from the film liking ken better than barbie despite ryan being too old for the role, he did a great job. rumors are there will be a ken spinoff film first instead of a barbie 2. hope they can fix their mistakes, go full musical instead of prickteasing it and only be in barbieland all day errrrrrrrrrday. ill give this a 7/10

The direction and all the production stuff in this film were great however the story I found a bit lacking. Overall the film was pretty entertaining.

It was a pretty decent film but definitely not the same caliber as Oppenheimer.

I think your last point about attempting to criticize Capitalism makes sense and is a decent critic, and humor is subjective I guess, but I and most people thought it was funny af, but what point do you think you're making about POC Barbies? Which barbie other than the literal only one we follow in the story gets significant characterization? Saying "The barbies of color don't have characters" its really loaded framing because you make it sound like all of the white barbies did get lots of character which is ridiculous

I agree with Payam. Ken's arc was way more entertaining. The gender/capitalism stuff was undercooked and tepid. Also the Ken dance was the best part of the movie for me haha.

I largely agree with this, definitely a fun movie with some strong elements but doesn't amount to much. The more I've sat with it the clearer it's become that Ken gets a way stronger, more interesting arc than Barbie, which is disappointing. Margot Robbie is great and that moment on the bench when they first enter the real world is actually so good, but yeah the emotional arc largely doesn't work for me and the Kens learning to find confidence in themselves ends up being way more compelling than any of the other gender or capitalism commentary (which felt kinda obligatory and undercooked). Still, I think it's more interesting than most movies that get this big.

I still think the movie was weird overall but I enjoyed the second half better with all the humor. Parts of the movie I actively felt bored like in the beginning with the cellulite and flat feet and stuff. The female condition speech was soap-boxy and overall the movie just did things without explaining too many times.

Movie of the year. Hands down. Oppenheimer may have been an impressive biopic, but barbie was the one that actually made me feel something.
