They somehow, miraculously, managed to end this series on a high note (aesthetically and emotionally superior to Chapters II and III, personally) and I want them to make the unlikely choice to stop while they’re ahead. I’m aware there’s already a spin-off prequel show and a spin-off film with Ana de Armas, and that already seems exhausting. At the very least, let Keanu, who is now approaching his 60’s, go out on this high note.

But the original intent from the director and Keanu was that this was final; in an interview after the movie came out, the director mentioned they shot other takes where the dog looking off was more obvious and that John was alive. but test screenings showed it wasn't liked so they scrapped that and decided his death was final. That said, the studio will probably just go ahead if they want to anyway...

2023-06-18 19:17:38 +0000 UTCThere's already two spinoffs coming-- "Ballerina," with Ana De Armas (taking place between JW3 and 4), and "The Continental", the prequel limited series on Peacock which already has a teaser trailer. I also hope they let him be gone, and the main series just follows Cane, Akira, etc. -- maybe actually going after the High Table for real change. I think they originally wanted a 5th but then Keanu felt like it was becoming too taxing as he gets older (and him wanting each new one to "up" the last one), so they sort of combined them into this movie.

2023-06-18 17:15:40 +0000 UTCStory wise it makes sense to let John be dead and stay dead. But speaking selfishly, I can never get enough Keanu doing gun-fu. So if they bring him back I won’t be mad about it. The plot has never been all that important in John Wick movies anyway. I do think some excellent movies set in the John Wick universe could be made without John Wick. De-aging technology has gotten pretty damn good so maybe some prequels? I don’t know. I just know that the fight choreography, stunt work, and cinematography of the John Wick movies scratch and itch for me that no other movies do and I don’t want to see that end.
