In most comics, the character's name is consistently spelled as "Ra's," implying the Arabic origin, but a couple of English-speaking writers (probably initially as a result of a simple mix-up between the two languages) gave pronunciation guides that indicated certain characters were pronouncing it like "Resh." As a result, film and TV adaptations tend to alternate between the two pronunciations.
