Just a scene of the light cursing and bickering with each other. That would have been hilarious. The writers missed a golden opportunity this episode.

2023-04-27 21:55:30 +0000 UTCWhat was shown in this episode was more than just "intelligent" people talking; which they weren't really intelligent anyway. They were putting someone down because of their profession and trying to make themselves look better by using pseudointellectual gobblygook against Xander. Those types of people aren't attractive at all and at it's core that behavior is bullying behavior. Those types of pseudointellectuals are easy to take down because once you get past their original argument, they fall apart because they don't have enough knowledge to support the thing they just read in a college textbook. Most of the time their ilk has surface level knowledge. "Good Will Hunting" did a great job showing that concept.

The WB made every single series on its network make one and then instantly jizzed in its pants. They didn't get any money for the Buffy episode, though, since it was clearly a parody of an anti-drug propaganda episode. "No, beer bad! Bad, bad beer! ...What the hell am I saying?! Buffy, you need to go home." "Now, what did we learn about beer?" "Foamy!!!" "Good. Just as long as that's clear."

2023-04-27 16:45:05 +0000 UTCThe actress who played the ghost lady was also in Donnie Darko, if you've seen it you will remember her as the woman who doubts your commitment to Sparklemotion. She's also a favorite of Bryan Fuller and has appeared in every one of his shows: Wonderfalls, Pushing Daisies, Dead Like Me, American Gods, even the unproduced The Munsters pilot he did. In at least 3 of those shows she played the same character. Also, you have now met one of my low-key favorite recurring minor characters: Phantom Dennis. Remember, this episode came out in 1999 when Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace came out, so "Phantom Dennis" was a timely rhyming gag. Best. Roommate. Ever.

Not because it's THAT good (it's such good dumb fun though), but because it's nowhere near THAT bad, I don't think it even comes close to deserving the "worst episode of Buffy" moniker it's gotten all those years. I particularly love how the writers play around with the constraint of having to make a PSA episode, they clearly are not taking it seriously. And another SMG comedic performance that is better than half the performance that get nominated for Emmys

The show has dozens of genuinely great eps, but it also has some "dumb but fun" ones, and this is the best of that genre haha. I honestly don't care that the premise is ridiculous and the "message" is absurdly heavy-handed. The hilarious stupidity of it all makes up for it. There are so many laugh out loud moments and Sarah Michelle Gellar is amazingly funny in this one even though the material is extremely broad!!! xD
