2023-03-08 21:46:44 +0000 UTCngl i wouldnt call that simple. the whole point of that scene was that ichigo couldnt hear zangetsu's name. so when he finally could and called it out, it was 100 times better. and while the dub isnt bad, it simply isnt as goated as the sub. SPOILER ALERT them saying bankai just hits way different in sub. also Ichigo not being able to hear "Zangetsu's" name was possibly a foreshadowing to the revelation in TYBW. Ofc, I dont think Kubo actually thought that far but it was still a cool retcon. But since the dub literally spoke his name prior it doesnt hit as hard

2023-03-08 21:09:33 +0000 UTCThe dub was like that because it didn't realize, as per usual with dubbing at the time, that Ichigo NOT hearing his name was an important part of the story. In fact, it was so important that in the Japanese audio / sub that part was audibly distorted to the point where even the viewer couldn't understand it. Even if it's shown in the next episode, the point is that it is important to know the name.

And yeah I have the same problems with Rey that I have with Luke, that's why I never got super into star wars.

I'm glad that has changed, looking at AOT you can see, that quality dub is possible.

2023-03-08 16:34:47 +0000 UTCThis dub is mostly great. However, this was a straight-up mistake. You are NOT supposed to hear the old mans name. In the sub, AND IN THE MANGA, his name is censored. Both Ichigo, and you the viewer/reader just hear/see static when he says it. This is extremely significant. Ultimately what's going to happen later will still happen, but it's disappointing that the dub team at this early stage made such an error. They get better, though.
