He is self-aware though. In the fourth film he admits to Rocky that he wishes he could be a better person; that he could be more like Rocky. Keep in mind that someone like Paulie isn't simply born, they are shaped into who they are by their life experiences. Cut out the alcoholism and find him something to do that fulfills him and gives him a purpose in life and Paulie might become a completely different person. Until we see that other side of him, the one without all the self-loathing and self-destructive behavior, we can't say whether he has a "good heart" or not.

He does not have a good heart at all: he is desperate to break people's bones, has no respect for his sister, and is a shit friend. He did nothing this entire movie to show he "has a good heart"

Paulie is the definition of a flawed character, he is an alcoholic and selfish but he has a good heart but it's buried under layers of just the worst personality traits a person can have, He gets worse in later movies but also has some of the best most heartfelt lines and even though he just drags rocky down and rocky would be better off cutting him out of his life, he is genuinely a true friend to rocky

as a 90s kid i saw PARTS of rambo and rocky, never sat down and watched them from begining to end. not my cup of tea. i know stallone from the muppets show, stop or my mom will shoot, rhinestone (with dolly parton), demolition man (classic), judge dredd, AND MORE

I think the money Gazzo gave Rocky for training was genuinely given out of friendship. He is a loan shark so we all assume that he wants something from Rocky but apparently not. I think it was actually just a nice gesture. While Stallone was born in New York City he did spend some of his youth in Philadelphia. It was his high school years where he lived in Philly. Also Micky, since I'm a Philly native I must point out at timestamp 1:12:25 that's not the court house you saw on your trip, that's the City Hall of Philadelphia.

It's wild how different both Rocky 1 and First Blood are compared to the later movies in both those series. Rocky 6 and the Creed movies kinda at least bought back the Rocky 1 vibe, but Rambo just went full on 80s cheesy action movies after First Blood and never looked back lol.

stalon wrote this movie while being broke and working in a zoo, when he went to sell the script his only stipulation was that he get to be the lead role, due to that the movie diodnt have alot of faith in it and was given a budget of only 1 million dollars, it ended up making over 100 million. also yes, with the first bit of money he got for selling the script, he bought his dog back

The rock didn't get his name from Rocky Balboa.The Rock's father was a wrestler in the mid 60's to I believe the 70's maybe 80's and his name was Rocky Johnson( Being The Rock's true inspiration for his name)

Good timing too: earlier this week, Cinema Therapy did a video breaking down why the Rocky franchise is such a great example of healthy masculinity. It's a great video, and dead on. Rocky Balboa really is a good cinematic role model, because he's just a genuinely good and empathetic human being throughout the franchise.
