✏️✧ July Sketchbook tour #1 ✧ GOTTA GO FAST

Hello and happy Monday! ◝(ᵔᵕᵔ)◜

Lately, I've been focusing on drawing speed and efficiency. There are a lot of things I enjoy drawing (e.g. comics, kpop) that are composed of many drawings or drawing multiple subjects in one piece. My workflow for some time now has been focused on details, languishing in the beauty of individual parts, and taking my time with iteration. However, that workflow doesn't fit well when multiple drawings are required to finish a project. If I'm used to spending days or weeks on one drawing, it'll be forever until I get a rough draft laid out, let alone finishing and having something tangible I can share. Its become more important to me to develop a new workflow that can produce consistent results that are both enjoyable to make and look at.

I've done a lot of experimenting in the past week to craft a process that follows a reliable step-wise pattern that helps me draw a lot and practice regularly without falling into overthinking. Its involved things like sticking with a few simple tools (drawing with the same brush each time), having a process for laying down flat colors that is straightforward (all forms of the lasso tool in Clip Studio Paint are super helpful), and drawing in a style that is easy to construct and can be fleshed out as much as is desired aka plenty of flexibility.

I used to shy away from drawing fullbody poses, because honestly it would just take me too long. Taking too long on any one drawing means I didn't get as much practice in and my skills became more limited/I was more afraid to venture out of my comfort zone. I could tell I was getting stuck drawing the same poses over and over again, because I didn't understand how to construct a drawing from its foundation. I think this is why doing timed gesture sketching is so helpful because it forces you to get out of your head and focus on the overall impact of a drawing rather than getting sucked into specific parts that may not make sense as a whole.

I'm having a lot of fun trying new things out and am excited to see what else I can do within these parameters. I hope you have a good day and thanks so much for being here!

love getting to hear how you think and how that influences your choices...this could so easily be a simple place for you to just showcase your latest work, but I always love how much you invite us into your thought process and design choices!
