Retrospective: 1 year in
Added 2022-09-20 16:16:38 +0000 UTCHey all, hard to believe it's been a year running this thing. I hesitated to start a patreon because I was concerned about how being obligated to rewards would eat up my time, and I am not a fan of paywalling content. Still, after the early hiccups and reorganization we've settled into a nice rhythm so far. The monthly poll is always fun, and it's been great getting WIP feedback.
COMMISSION PRACTICE CHANGES
The one point that I am still iffy about is commission priority. While it does make for easier organization of commission sales, I need to make a few changes in how I administer the benefit. In particular:
- I need to be more selective about what requests I take, even from supporters. In particular, too many renders burn me out and slow down work in general, so I can't be quite so accepting of render requests. I'm thinking moving forward, I'll likely restrict myself to a single render per batch. How I decide that is TBD.
- I need to take breaks from commission batches more. This means really cheapening the commission priority and the patron-only commission benefits, so if you're on board specifically for those benefits, be aware that the wait could be extended.
It's worth noting that restricting renders and taking other measures like that may substantially improve turnover rate getting through the commission batch, though, so it's possible you feel the wait the same on your side as before in spite of me taking longer breaks between batches.
POTENTIAL SKETCH STREAMS
I'm considering a new streaming-related benefit to be offered at some tier but I'll need help figuring out the kinks. I need a dedicated participating audience to do a few test sessions. If you're interested in participating, fill out this schedule survey. We'll figure out a time to schedule a test stream that works for people and you will have a chance at getting your idea/character/scene sketched live.
