So I've been looking into non-digital colouring methods, and watercolour's turned out to be fun and pretty manageable effort-wise. Comment below: would you rather I upload a new black ink piece next week, or take the time to apply watercolours to one of my recent uploads?

Like I said in the last upload, these days I'm inking a few forgotten sketchbook pages I'm mostly pretty kinda sure I never uploaded anywhere. This one in particular I suspect I might have? Maybe?

Anyway, here's yet another handsome, manly brodude with massively obese, freakishly wide hips and stacks of wobbling fat for legs. No, I'll never stop drawing them. I know you love them too.

Now that I'm happily reacquainted with paper, I've been going through my archive of physical art. I found a few sketchbook pages that I'm mostly sure I never uploaded anywhere, and decided to make inked versions of them. Again, I'm mostly sure – maybe I did upload them sometime and you'll find them familiar.

Totally cartoony notion, of course – but if you wonder what a gut stretching sounds like in my head, think Mr. Creosote in Monty Python, or the hot fat dude in that old Yoshi's Island commercial. Or maybe you have your own way of imagining that sound?

UNCHANGED: 03. Grady gets groceries

The experimentation with different styles continues. With this one I distilled the process into only the parts I actually enjoy: sketching, spending a ton of time doing super intricate inking, and then doing only the least possible amount of tone work to help guide the eye. UNCHANGED - Full Script

There's a new page of UNCHANGED just about to come, but I'm also very excited because I just finished a full plan for the whole thing, and I can't resist sharing some of it with you guys. There's rough layouts of every page too, but I figure I should save the art for when it's finished – for now, here's a peek at the script. I might take this down when I post the next page, maybe, but I'll see how I feel about it then. See you in a couple of days!

UNCHANGED: 02. Todd Orders Takeout (Colour Scheme B)

I'm still obsessing over the shading of UNCHANGED and fiddling with it. Don't worry, it's not any real work – just changing the colour overlay of two layers, a matter of a few clicks. Currently I'm liking this softer, warmer take – almost the same as I what I did for the recent sketchbook pages. Thoughts?

Another sketchbook page... I'm still sticking to monochrome, but I figure shading with a warm, earthy colour results in something more appealing that just greys.

I appear cursed to be frequently sick – I just went through a bout of bronchitis, and I'd forgotten that shit could get rough and last for a while. PSA: do warn your friends when you've been in contact with someone infected with anything, and consider wearing masks at the very least in public transpo... Being consistently soc...

I'm not entirely happy with the look of the first page of UNCHANGED, so I went back to the drawing board and spent some time experimenting with some relatively simple greyscale shading. It ended up being a good excuse to have fun again with some off-the-cuff sketching, like I did so often pre-hiatus. There's another one of these soon to be finished and posted, and then I'll probably revise UNCHANGED page 01 to make it look like this before continuing on with the rest of the comic.

UNCHANGED: 01. Wade works from home

And here we go again! UNCHANGED isn't a single, ongoing story but a series of one-offs, all revolving around the idea of sizeable change going completely unnoticed by oblivious friends, relatives, neighbours, et cetera. I've wanted to experiment with something like this for a while, and I've got a few other ideas like this in the backlog, so let me know what you think!

And that's a wrap for Stud and Daddy, who now ride off into the horizon, ready to continue pouring their (seemingly endless) money into that monster gut! (Or they would, if poor mountainous Stud could budge his lard a single inch.)

SHOPPING: 6. Help

The curse of perpetual creative second-guessing is broken, at least for now, and so we can dive into the last stretch of this little comic!

Stud's been way too fat to function for a while now, but Daddy loves spoiling him so much that he's only now shopping around for some assistance. These days, with so many people gorging themselves megasized, immobility-focused carers are not terribly scarce, but Daddy and Stud need someone who understands their peculiar needs...

Yet Another Progression

After quite a bit of experimentation with panelling around really extravagant sizes (like a few times before, I accidentally made Stud grow faster by the page than initially planned), it seems viable that "Shopping" will end with pages 6, 7 and 8 between now and early February. In the meantime, I've also experimented with going back to a sharper, cleaner lines while maintaining my current simplified shading style – I'm almost fully convinced that this will be the appearance of the next full...

Another Progression, Part 1

Sorry that this went up for a whole day without me touching base with you!

My initial ten-ish days of COVID trouble ended up stretching into two extra weeks of annoying symptoms, even after testing negative. This came crashing into my real life obligations and the usual tangle of holiday plans, and so the whole of December has become a drag, a mess and a blur, all at once.

But! I couldn’t let the whole month go by without giving you guys something. So I found time (at my in-laws...

INTERMISSION: A progression

I'm taking this week to figure out the remaining pages of SHOPPING – but I announced weekly uploads and I'm committed to keep it up.

So, as an intermission to the ongoing comic, here's an old-fashioned ink-on-paper progression that I fished out from the "abandoned" pile and finished up. Every now and then I'll need to do this while working on a comic – hope that's alright with y'all!

SHOPPING: 5. Scooters

We all knew Daddy's last-ditch attempt to keep ginormous Stud out-and-about was doomed from the start. At some point you gotta cut your losses and let a fatass spiral into total, helpless decadence.

Also, if you look closely, there's the front of a scooter bravely poking out of the blubbery cleft of Stud's gut – as if fighting not to drown.

SHOPPING: 4. Appliances

Daddy insists on dragging less-and-less-mobile Stud along on his shopping trips... and lazy, heavy Stud slowly plods along, 'cause deep down he knows he won't be getting out of the house for much longer, and he should make the most of it while he can.

Does uploading half an hour past midnight on Saturday still count as Friday? Asking for a friend...
