“The Undertrash is a hard place, cold, dark. It can certainly be unforgiving. But it can also be a welcoming place, where the wounded, ignored, and angry can find a sense of community. This cold, hard, dark place is our home, and we are going to have to fight for it. Nothing is free, not even the things that others discard, and the cost to protect our home will be paid in blood.”
Hey folks!
Today’s track is The Undertrash, part of the official City of Mist: Local Legends soundtrack. This is one of the more emotional tracks in the album, carrying the weight of those left behind by the system who find their home in the hidden corners of the city. At the same time, it keeps a strong undercurrent of tension, echoing the danger and desperation of life underground.
The sound palette draws from the setting itself: bowed metals, glitchy synths, and heavy drums built from trash to represent the repurposed scraps of the Undertrash. A haunting cello (and later, violin) weaves an arpeggiated theme through it all, symbolizing both the struggle of daily survival and the fragile hope of community.
Bard tier supporters get access to one alternate version of the track:
Lost Echoes: This mix removes the percussion, pitches down many of the remaining elements, and leans heavily on reverb and delay to create a sense of echoing distance. It feels more hollow and spectral, reflecting the isolation of the Undertrash while keeping its emotional weight.
30-second preview of this version is attached to the post.
This track is not numbered like my other tracks and is instead contained within a folder called City of Mist – Local Legends soundtrack. You’ll find this folder inside all of the usual format folders (MP3, WAV, OGG, looped, 1 hour, and alternate versions).
