The Underdark - eerie ambience

Your mind screams for the day, for the dawning sun, for a beam of light, for anything to cut through the absolute darkness. The air is thick with the smell of fungus. Sputtering, you pull yourself along the damp, slick floor. Something is wrong. Something is very, very wrong. A shape moves towards you. You can't see it, but you feel it like a pinprick in the centre of your mind. Before you can scream the tentacles wrap around your face. As you struggle for breath, blissful unconsciousness lulls you into a state of nothingness.

Excited to share this eerie ambient track, a darker twist on the 'Exotic Ecosystems' monthly theme for February. I listened along to a soundscape of underground noises whilst writing this one, a trick I think I'll try again as it helped me get into the zone! Whilst I enjoy writing big bombastic tracks, my personal preference will always be for those which evoke a heavy sense of atmosphere without being too obtrusive, and writing alongside a SFX soundscape (such as those from the brilliant Michael Ghelfi or Sword Coast Soundscapes) helps a lot.

Alternate Versions

Bard tier supporters are in for a treat with this track! I've created three quite distinct alternate versions of the track, and I've attached a preview of all three to this post (also available here) so everyone can hear the differences between the versions. Here's what we have:

- Extra Creepy (I switched out the main melody instrument for a creepier one, perfect for a mindflayer lair!)

- Orchestra and Choir (no synthy sounds in this one, more more delicate, great for a dream sequence)

- Half Speed (super slow version of the main track for a really ambient feel)

All of these alternate versions are available in mp3 and uncompressed wav format as well as looping and 1 hour variants.
