Ah, bless you, Josh! You're not alone in your strong, visceral reaction to that final scene. It is absolutely horrifying and played so coldly, and there's no escape - it doesn't cut away the way most scenes of a similar nature might. I don't like relentlessly heavy stuff either but don't worry, while This is England '88 and '90 follow a similar tone, that scene with poor Trev and disgusting Mick is absolutely the most harrowing in the series. It's hard hitting but it doesn't repeat anything like that so don't worry. It becomes apparent why it needed to be so extreme but yes, really tough viewing for anyone. Lol is being awful but you are right. - she's self destructing because she can't handle how awful her father is. I almost feel like she's got a lot of self hatred in there. Her mother is pretty vile too and she doesn't feel like she can be a good person because how can two such terrible people produce a decent human being? So she's abandoning her code of conduct but you can see it's actually destroying her doing that as it isn't who she is. Not really. Smell and Sean continue to goofy and sweet. We kind of need that. And poor Gadge. Dodged a bullet by running, definitely! π

The next two seasons have some really good comedy moments mixed in with the hard ones. The acting on this show is so believable it is very much worth sticking with it, if you need to skip anything all of us will understand
