They're a big part of a British Christmas and Christmas iconography.

I think the old woman at the start is the granny from Mitchell and Webbs 'heroin Christmas.'

That's similar to what my mum told us about Father Christmas growing up :) that she and my dad bought the gifts for us but he delivered them. My mum said I was about 6 when I stopped believing in him, I'd keep saying 'I know he isn't real, is he?' like I was unsure but just needed definite confirmation. They tried to still convince me for one more year after that but I wasn't having it :D then I felt really grown up once I was let in on the 'secret' and played along for my little brother and sister's sake.

Fantastic reaction, Josh! This is such a joyful, fun episode! Loved the juxtaposition of the "ideological Christmas" with the rather depressing real Christmas, and it was so packed with great dialogue and funny visual jokes. I was probably about 8 or 9 when I found out about Father Christmas/Santa and I think I was probably a bit older than the norm! But I also recall that even at a very young age, my mum always presented Father Christmas/Santa as merely the delivery man of the presents, the one who did the shopping and delivered the gifts but NOT the one who paid for them. So the entire time, I knew that the presents I received were paid for by my mum, and this helped explain the inconsistency from year to year - some years, I did fairly well and other years, it was a bit more sparse, but I knew why. I think that was quite a wise way forward as the magic of Father Christmas was there but I was never complacent about where it all came from.....I really understood the value of it all. And even on the odd year where I might have done a bit better, it was always the small stuff I preferred anyway - I loved my Christmas stocking with all the random, relatively inexpensive stuff. I found that far more fun and magical than any "big" gift. Just three episodes of Men Behaving Badly left now - the final season, which is unnumbered and called simply "Last Orders". The great thing is that this final trilogy is terrific. It ends on a high, one of the few sitcoms that bowed out at the top of its game.

Hey Josh! Is it true that you don't have Christmas crackers in the U.S.? They're the things they kept pulling that make a bang. They contain a paper hat, a small toy and a crap Christmas joke.

Forgot how much I loved this show
