Yeah the second girl didn’t work at a strip club but a night club which is very different, it was just to make it clear that she was the people’s favourite and Alan was going against them and the judges to pick 3 because he liked her

JOSH: The beauty contest contestant who got lots of cheers from the audience; that wasn't because there we're lots of dirty male fans of hers who went to the strip club and saw her there. Rather, the audience were encouraged to whoop and cheer for that particular contestant by the director because they wanted to make it clear that she was the people's favourite and most worthy of being crowned as Miss Norwich, so that when Alan insists on announcing the winner as contestant number 3, it's especially obvious that he's doing so simply because he wants to get off with her. This was confirmed by the cast and writers on the DVD commentary.

JOSH: You talked about keeping an eye on the sign at the start of each episode and Alan's signature does indeed keep getting bigger each episode, the idea being that Alan was demanding they make his name bigger than the title of the show every week, behind the scenes and they would, but Alan would keep saying "No! BIGGER!" each week. However, the other thing to keep an eye on is Alan's mimes as he enters the stage each week. He does a different combat based mime each week, towards the audience. So, for example, this week it was a judo chop and in previous weeks it's been things such as machine gunning the audience down or chucking a grenade at them.

...Oh and about colonel Kojack Slaphead, that's most probably a reference to a real political party in the UK called The Monster Raving Loony Party. They were also referenced in a Blackadder episode, as the 'Standing at the Back Dressed Stupidly and Looking Stupid Party'. They're a genuine party and they're regarded as pretty annoying and unfunny, but they claim that by coming up with daft policies(one of the more funny-ish ones was the proposed minting of a 99p coin, so that when a shop charges £1.99 you only need two coins) and generally acting like berks they're 'satirising modern politics'. They always do terribly in actual elections but just seem happy to be involved. Anyway, just some background there, because I'd imagine that character's inclusion among the other serious candidates would be pretty puzzling to Americans(although given the last six or seven years of US politics maybe not that puzzling now I think about it).

Josh, if you're interested in Alan and you're genuinely starting to like him outside of this channel then there are two things that you might also like: One is the book he wrote - it's called I, Partridge: We Need To Talk About Alan. I picked it up in a shop and started reading a couple of pages, even though novelty comedy books usually aren't that good. And I had to buy it after the first two pages. No exaggeration when I say it's easily the funniest book I've ever read, by a long way. Every single paragraph is funny. There are no lulls. And I think Alan reads the audiobook version, so if you haven't got the time for physical books that's always an option. The other thing I thought I'd bring up is the concept of Accidental Partridge. I believe there was/is a famous twitter feed of the same name dedicated to people generally behaving in Alan-like ways. One of the most prolific contributors to Accidental Partridge is a TV presenter called Richard Madeley, infamous for his many, many cringeworthy lines on live TV. I can't link to anything here otherwise I would, but Accidental Partridge is worth a google.

That series of sketches is complete genius. It's funny cos it's true, I always enjoyed the glazed expression that would come over my friends' faces when the girls they were chatting up revealed they had boyfriends. They disguised their 180 degree turn only a tiny bit better than Matt Berry.

The girl who won the Miss Norwich beauty contest is the same actress who played Susan, the Linton Travel Tavern manager in series 1 of "I'm Alan Partridge". I knew you'd like the first interview, it's one of my favourite moments. The actor's name is Alan Ford who was indeed in "Snatch" as Brick Top. You also saw him in "Cockneys vs Zombies" as Ray / Grandad and in a smaller role as a Taxi Driver in "An American Werewolf in London".
