Black Books: Season 1, Episode 4 The Blackout

Comments

"Is it just Fran that calls him Berrnerd?" Well, last episode did have Manny holding the massager and saying his name over 20 times in a row ;P

David Lyons

This episode always reminds me of a friend of mine, who did exactly what Bernard did with the "wicker toilet" in his mothers kitchen.

Dr. Gonzo

Did you recognise Toni from Peep Show, as his friend's wife, Sarah? You may have mentioned it early on when she appeared, but I can't remember haha. Also, it's Bernard not Bernard. Hope that clears it up πŸ˜‚

Relyx

The wife at the dinner party was played by Elizabeth Marmur, who also played Toni the neighbour in Peep Show

MrPhil_K

Manny had been drinking espresso and watching The Sweeny, a 1970s cop show here in the UK, the main characters were Regan and Carter and wore leather jackets

MrPhil_K

Holy hell! I've seen this episode a few times over the years, but watching it this time I had a sudden moment of recognition when I heard the copper talking to Manny. I 100% knew that I recognised it from the video game Fable. Lo and behold he voiced the guard at the arena in the game (using the same london accent I recognised) and he voiced Thunder, the father of your rival, who has a vague Afro-Caribbean accent.

Relyx

Lol that was goofy but hilarious 🀣

Thanks bud πŸ‘ I'll keep that in mind.

Lol that's great 🀣

I love this episode xD. The whole idea of Manny being mistaken for a police officer just because he drank too much coffee makes no sense in the funniest way possible. It's exactly the kind of goofy shit this show thrives on

Balkyne

For me this is one of two episodes of Black Books that aren't quite as good as the rest. But even the lowpoints of Black Books are still great fun to watch.

Jay

This episode probably has the best bloopers of the show, definitely worth checking out after this series.

William Jewell

That is still my favourite line from this entire show. "Enjoy. It's dreadful, but it's quite short."

Oliver Prime

Lol thanks bud. This was a good one and looking forward to next week.

Well actually Ber-nerd would be the British way of saying it. There is no "nard" in it, despite how it's spelled.

(Just) Steve

This is probably my least favourite BB episode but it's still good. Enjoying the show quite a bit more than I expected. Dylan Moran is enormously charismatic and has a unique delivery. I still think the other two are much less funny(and I love Bill Bailey the rest of the time), but Moran's the star and his mannerisms are the kind of things you write a show around. You write a character with him in mind, just because you know he's going to deliver a particular line in a particularly Moran-ish way. Good stuff.

Saul

Ber NARD is the US way of saying it, BERnard is the British way. We tend to emphasise the first syllable, Americans tend to emphasise the last. GARage vs garAAAGE ADult vs adULLLT and so on...

lemmy

Ah this is such a great episode! looking forward to this one. EDIT: I just realised, I was thinking of next weeks episode! ah well, this is a really good one too.
