I'll just post this separately as it got lost in my reply to Sam - I think we could take one of the four monthly choices from Metacritic's 'best comedies' list. Either from the year we're in list, the previous year's list or from their 'all-time' list. So one of the monthly films would be from Metacritic's Top Comedies list, and the other three would be same as normal, voted for by Patrons. That way we'd get a mix of Patron picks...but with a small injection of the kind of comedy that often gets drowned out here(because people tend to vote for stuff they've seen, even if they're not that enthused about it).

Saul

But why?? There are so, so many funny films out there that haven't been seen yet: The Jerk, Sleeper, This Is The End, Bowfinger, Superbad, Pink Panther, Hunt For the Wilderpeople, just off the top of my head. I don't understand why the choices need to be this dodgy, already, is it because people don't want to choose non-british films? If so that's a shame. I know no-one will vote for this but there's a French film called Le Diner De Cons that is extremely funny - it was remade(badly) for America as Dinner For Schmucks. But that's an example of a film I can almost guarantee would appeal to everyone here, simply because it's so funny. Can I suggest instead an idea that might help make the film section a bit more interesting - how about one slot per month is given over to a film from Metacritic's 'best comedies' section? So 3 out of the 4 movies are patreon picks, but 1 out of 4 of them is a critically acclaimed classic comedy. I appreciate the democratic spirit here but it'd be nice to have something that was regarded as really good each month. Then if we disagree we can all tear the critics to pieces after we've watched it :) I honestly think that would make the movies section a bit more lively.

Saul

Same here... Not seen it on a long time but I remember it being the most fun to watch.

BigChanChan

twin town is soo good I know it will never win though :(

John Wilson

Karl's favorite film there... Elephant Man...

Matt Anderson

Please add Epic Movie to the poll, Josh.

Right Said Brett

We're getting to the dregs now

Sam Reeves

Its not a movie but rather a feature length TV special but would you consider adding ‘Britain's Got The Pop Factor...and Possibly a New Celebrity Jesus Christ Soapstar Superstar Strictly On Ice' to the poll? Its written by Peter Kay who stars in it (in drag I might add😂) and is a parody of popular singing/talent competition shows (think X-Factor or Britain/Americas Got Talent). Very funny stuff as usual from Peter Kay.

King Bloo

no there are 5 afaik, so we will have another 2 after this to put up with, unfortunately. they shouldn't have even been allowed in the movie section.

Cherzo

Don't get me wrong, I like Bottom......but christ is this the last live show? Please?!

Richard M

come on in the loop. for those who haven't seen it. one of the funniest well written movies ever

TC Elba

A few suggestions Office Space Private Benjamin House Sitter

James Chalmers

Josh, I think you would love Cemetery Junction, written and directed by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. Would recommend it is added to the movie poll for next time! 😊

Ash Jeffries

Nuns on the run 1980s

Twin Town/ Death at a funeral/ Bronson

It must be the vinyl LP version

Jack Nicholas

Naked gun 33 1/3?

Ferris Booyaa

Trading Places (1983)

Just watch everything bottom, you know it’s already going to win!!!! But for the non bottom fans it’s taking up movie spaces every month

Christopher Mapson

Bottom Hooligans Island is, in my opinion, their funniest show. I'm holding off watching it in the hope we can watch it together.

Steve Read

As usual , the best two films on here by a country mile, Sexy Beast and In The Loop will not get near winning. Though In The Loop is best watched after watching The Thick Of It to attune yourself to the type of comedy it is.

Chris

In my opinion The Gentlemen is really a good movie, I voted every time and hope some day it will get in the top 4 🤞🏻 I think Josh would really like the movie.

Josip Buretic

It is called The Gentlemen and is a Guy Ritchie movie, so it is not a surprise if it does well.

Cherzo

Never heard of The Gentlemen. Thats snuck in and doing well surprisingly.

Danny

I saw Parasite twice in the cinema. That wasn't enough so I downloaded it and watched it another two times. I wouldn't mind watching it again.

Tony Smyth

OMG watch In the Loop. Peter Capaldi is amazing.

Thomas Newell

Dog soldiers 🙏

Josh Clulow

Some recommendations for future polls Ed Wood (1994) True Romance (1993) Parasite (2019) Memento (2000) 12 Angry Men (1957) Rear Window (1954) Seven Samurai (Shichinin no samurai) (1954) Arsenic And Old lace (1944)

jack

Still crossing my fingers for Spaceballs along with Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

(Just) Steve

I love Twin Town, hilarious movie! But if Josh was to watch a movie about the Kray twins then he should watch the 1990 movie, The Krays, starring the Kemp brothers.

(Just) Steve

Shoot 'Em Up is a highly underrated action movie, as much a comedy as it is action, since the stunts and dialogue are so ridiculously over the top but it's tongue is firmly in its cheek! Think John Wick crossed with Naked Gun directed by John Woo and you're kind of in the right ballpark.

David Lyons

I'd love to see Karl's other favourite movie Kes in a future poll. Mr Pilkington has extremely good taste.

Tony Smyth

Top secret!

Gyle

lol isn't that always the way.

Only reason I'm not voting for In the Loop is because I think you should probably see The Thick of It first. It's a great movie, but the show itself is far better.

Thomas McDonald

Twin town is an awesome movie be interested to see how it does as I'm not sure how well known it is. And on another note has anyone ever mentioned Legend for a movie as Josh mentioned he didn't know who the Krays were in the OFITG reaction?

Has “Eastern Promises” ever made it onto the poll list?

Andy

Is this Death at a Funeral the original British version or the American remake? Because the original is sublime and the remake is bloody awful
