The Royle Family Season 3 Episode 2 Babysitting

Comments

I remember when Madonna adopted a child whose name is David. Every time the story was on the news, he was referred to as "Baby David". All I could think of was The Royle Family.

Interesting... 😂 What flavors are the sauces?

I agree, these characters feel very real. Thank you I am glad you enjoyed the pictures! I agree not having uniforms can be tough sometimes. On one hand it's nice to wear what you like but also kids can be so cruel so you will most likely get picked on fir your clothes.

Thank you I am happy you enjoyed them! I loved this episode I was cracking up. I do say cold blooded alot, lol it is kind of my catch phrase 🤣

Grin and bare it... He meant that so much had been spent on the wedding, if you found your new wife had a cock and balls, you should get your money's worth and fuck her/him anyway.

My kids had a mixture of brand clothes and plain gear....but nobody really cares unless you send your kid to school in some freaky outfit!

Hannah

Anthony, Dave and Denise have proper Manchester accents (Manc) Jim's is a Liverpool accent(Scouse)

The working classes in the UK ALL love a good bacon butty! Except for muslims, and veggies, of course. You can have it with red sauce, brown sauce, cheese, lettuce and tomato or just plain bacon. The way to say "bacon" in a Jamaican accent...just say "beer can".

Hannah

Their so nasty to Antony and hypocritical of others, Jim mocking Cheryl's weight when he's not exactly thin. Yet the writing is so good we end up liking these people 😆

Ah, Nicks. Up there with CICA and LA Gear in the trainers that would get you beaten up stakes. Weirdly there's currently a pair of unworn "vintage" Nicks on eBay for £250. I don't think it helped that those brands emerged at the start of Britain's love affair with Americana, which made them seem even more naff.

Charlie

The whole thing about school and fashion got me thinking, at school in suburbia in the 2000s I got picked on because of what music I liked, and one of the weirdest things was seeing zoomers wearing Nirvana tees - which would've got me threatened, beaten up, or the piss taken out of me by some kids at my school - that had become hot fashion items. I would be lying if I said the whole fashion thing never bothered me though, largely because through most of school I wanted a quiet life and to be left in peace, and there were people who would make sure you weren't if you wore the wrong shoes or whatever, and a lot of them could be pretty brutal over something that minor. And obviously it's nice to be "normal", or what you think is normal. Sadly a lot of them never really grow out of it, Dave and Denise in this episode are not unrealistic portrayals. Humans are very silly.

Charlie

Like everyone else we had a uniform so there wasn't much brand name bullying the only time I got picked on is when mum made me get a perm....it was the early 80s so everyone had one at some point!! Makes me shudder to think about that horrendous hairstyle!

Claire Prowse

theyre the sort of parents i imagine that raised karl pilkington ,let him roam around like a wild animal not monitored or anything

girlsdrinkfeck

Ahh, the burberry phase 😂😂 we had it too

Aimee

Great episode. What I got from the grin and bear it comment, was Jim hinting that the husband would have to be a "taker" on their wedding night. (Difficult to explain without getting explicit). With regards to the label thing. In the UK kids generally wear school uniform, so it's not really an issue. In my generation, the only labelled stuff we'd have were schoolbags and training shoes for P.E. and some of the UK labels which were popular at the time such as 'Head' and 'Puma' were fairly reasonably priced compared to Nike and Adidas, so no one really got much stick. However kids would get stick for wearing fake label stuff outside school though. There was one company called 'Nicks' which was a rip off of Nike, and anyone wearing those would get a massive amount of stick. The whole label thing is pretty awful, but kids will be kids.

It's so easy to relate to the characters in this , they're so believable. I wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I am. Thanks for the reaction Josh :D I'm glad you left in your longer comments at the end and it was nice to see pics from when you were younger lol :) We didn't have a school uniform at my primary school and it was a very loose 'uniform' policy at secondary so it was always obvious who couldn't afford brand name stuff growing up (I was one of them too) but I didn't get picked on for it, it was never that big an issue for some reason at our school.

Absolutely loved seeing your photos at the end of this instalment! Thank you so much for sharing them. Thank you also for another great reaction, and for having me laughing away! I think my favourite term of yours is ‘cold blooded’! Always makes me smile. Looking forward to OFITG tomorrow! See you then! Hi to anyone reading this too 👋
