The League of Gentlemen: Season 2, Episode 3 A Plague on Royston Vasey

Comments

When the guy looked at him on the toilet he wasn’t going to kill him, he was ‘cottaging’ looking for gay sex in public toilets… Love the fact that the radio DJ said he had a charity gig for ‘Down syndrome’ but was in fact playing cards - yeah they’re all made up which is why you’d never heard of them Josh.

Josh I hope you realise there’s so much more amazing British comedy to come your way. Nighty Night, Gimme Gimme Gimme, Thin Blue line…. You’re going to be going at this for years mate! 😘👍🏻

Ryan Keane

A pretty terrible film but notable for featuring a creature design from legendary artist H.R. Giger (also the designer of the titular creature in Alien).

I never put two and two together to make that Johnny B Goode connection. Crazy! It's so obvious in hindsight. I also love Pauline's "oh, for fu..." cut off. It's far funnier than her saying the full word ever would have been. I'm not sure that it was due to TV broadcasting restrictions though, given that The League of Gentlemen was always broadcast post-watershed (after 9pm) and also because Roy Chubby Brown (the real Royston Vasey) says "fuck" and "fucking" in the episode he appears in.

Pretty sure the shirt in the video shop scene is for the 1995 movie Species.

Neil J

The t-shirt worn by the guy at the rental place was from a sci-fi horror movie called Species.

Middy

I have a friend who does a lot of running and she often posts pictures of herself and one of her friends after they've gone for a run and I kid you not her friend looks the spitting image of Tubbs and unbeknowns to her (bless her soul) me and my mate howl with laughter every time I see one of my friends posts with her in it. Poor woman lmfao.

Classic episode. Took years to realise Go Johnny Go Go Go Go was a Chuck Berry reference from the song Johnny B Goode. I think my favourite bit is the way Pauline says "Oh for fu...". I still say that - love the delivery of it. Especially because around this time you couldn't really say 'fuck' on the TV without being pushed to a later time slot. Clever way of getting round it.

Ian Webster

I've never noticed that, well observed!

Remember when everyone said Ted Cruz was the Zodiac Killer 🤣

Interesting bud thanks for sharing.

This episode was so goofy I loved it 🤣

After Work Reactions

Oh wow thanks for the link bud.

After Work Reactions

Slightly scared to see famously ridiculous Trump-critic-turned-bootlicker Ted Cruz sidle up in the public lavs at 14:40. Uncanny, but you know what they say about those American right-wing politicians - gay as a window behind the scenes.

Perhaps Josh could also add Mrs. Brown's Boys , Miranda and My Hero whilst he's at it! :p

Right Said Brett

Great reaction as always, Josh. In fact, out of ten, I'd give this reaction twelvety!

Steve King

Please can you add Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps to the next long series poll, it was a sitcom about a group of twenty something year olds and ran for 9 series'. It starred Ralf Little who plays Anthony on The Royle Family. It was a great funny British show.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_hundred I learned very recently that 'Twelfty' is apparently a real thing. And according to supplementary media, the Local Shop has been there since at least 1086.

The character in the dating agency looks like a proto version of David Sowerbutts from Psychoville

At 14:01, that road sign "Platt Street" has been stolen: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.4615318,-1.9658368,3a,90y,35.57h,86.88t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sA4OqEoVexeMDRgSFWG2UtA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656
