The League of Gentlemen: Season 2 Episode 1 Destination Royston Vasey

Comments

I watched it on Dailymotion the other day so all should be good ,fingers crossed! Also I'm the opposite, I thought series 2 was a step up and found 3 to be pretty boring... without posting spoilers it took itself way too seriously, plus some of the new characters were garbage imo.

Michael Hartley

The Christmas special is a bit hard to track down online but I’m sure someone here has the key! I thought series 2 was a step down from series 1 at the time and series 3 was a step back up. There was one episode from series 3 I was too scared to watch for years after a band mate described it to me!

Philip

I agree this season does have a different feel but I do like it.

Ok thanks bud, I will check to see if that is on there.

Josh, make sure that whatever you are watching this on has the Xmas special at the end of this season before season 3. Real good episode.

Robert Donohoe

The ironic thing is that show seems to me to take the piss out of white Northern provincial towns and their wierd colloquialisms and the the reputation of interbreeding etc that is said in jest from other parts of the UK but nothing is said of that but there's uproar when someone from a circus paints their face lol.

The season just gets better and better from here. I love the fact that season two is so different from the first in terms of it being more focused on plot lines rather than random skits (although there are some). Glad you are enjoying.

Yeah, still can't believe it got removed from Netflix because of this. To think that generations to come will have no idea what this show even is and that it even exists.

Michael Hartley

no idea what the warning was for start of the episode ,that must of been added on later not original ! unless its racially sensitive to traveller people ? and he isnt even in blackface, blackface looks totally different with red accented lips, like josh said last year ? it looks more like that bobbaduke monster lol

That's the beauty of Royston Vasey... we've all met most of them already. They're like pens, I mean friends.

I actually went to a Halloween party dressed as Papa Lazarou a few years ago!

There should be a competition where people nominate their town as being the most similar to Royston Vasey. My little village wouldn't come close, but Harvey cleaning coal did remind me that my Russian neighbour likes to dig up rocks in his back garden, scrub them clean in a washing up bowl, all the time on his knees on the lawn, and then re-bury them.

Izzy of Albion

The movie was a bit of a let down...but the proud look on Tubbs' face when she makes that B.F. is worth the admission fee on it's own.

I live for these League of Gentlemen reactions! Not sure if it's already been asked but will you be watching all LOG content? After S2 there's an Xmas special, S3 then S4 (3 anniversary episodes filmed 20 years later with lots of clever throw backs and Easter eggs). There was also a theatrical movie but it's a little hit or miss.

Michael Hartley

Great reaction, Josh! I'm really enjoying rewatching these as it's such a unique show and one of my all-time favourites! I think it really does hold up well after 21 years and I think this opening episode of series 2 is in my top 5 of the whole show - it's such a conscious step-up from the world they created in the first series, demonstrably darker, and you can see more and more continuity being built in, as if we're now watching the characters in *scenes* rather than sketches per se. Papa Lazarou is a genuinely unsettling character and I can imagine him being one of the most fun to play too - the walk, the voice, the general sinister nature of him. But I just love that his charlatan ways make him quite pathetic too. And of course, the ultimate joke is that Royston Vasey is such a scary place that even he and his psychotic minions find it too much! Haha! Hats off to Joby Talbot too - the music in this show adds so much and I don't think he gets nearly enough credit.

Of ALL of the shows I've rewatched on this channel League of Gentlemen is BY FAR my favourite. Just trying to figure out who's playing which characters is a game in itself. (Also, how did you not know who was in that carriage in the opening scene? I shat meself and it wasn't because I was laughing. Scariest fucker ever, and you knew he was coming... He'll be back... You're HIS wife now!)
