This was a decent episode but I stand by my selection I made in the beginning for my favorite episode so far. #1-Better than Life #2 Future Echoes and #3 Kryten. Maybe episode 1 season 1 should have a spot on the list since it was my introduction to the show. I have heard that argument before that whenever you do a top list for a show the pilot episode should always make the list. It was cool to see some more tech, the Hologram cage, and The Memory Machine. I have to check and see if that sign above Lister's bed always changes. I never noticed it before.

2021-01-14 21:54:15 +0000 UTCwill always love the practical effects for the ships and the Red Dwarf itself, they were the most expensive things to shoot, and there was only one Red Dwarf Model so if anything happened to it they were fucked. Kryten joins in season 3 onwards for reasons we can't go into yet.

When I first watched it on TV many years ago it was too quick to read so I never knew what it said until I could afford the VHS a couple of years later and managed to pause it.

2021-01-13 10:29:40 +0000 UTCTo this day...I still want to make this sandwich and eat it. Kryten was only meant to be a Guest Character for one episode. He becomes a full member in Season 3. Word of advice, there is a text scroll in Episode 1 of Season 3 so you might want to pause it every so often as it scrolls quite fast so you can find out what happened between the end of Season 2 and the start of Season 3.

2021-01-13 00:50:09 +0000 UTCLike I said, the show leads a lot more into the 'wacky' sci-fi sort of stuff from now on.. From season 3 there is a lot more action and as other have said, Robert Llewellyn comes in as Kryten and really finishes the cast.. It's almost as if up to these episodes the writers were laying down the character and once they're cemented the stories in each episode take precedent. Can't wait for you to see the rest of the show!!

2021-01-12 22:54:52 +0000 UTCThe characters have mellowed so much now. Cat even helped to carry the gravestone! It works in the story that Lister and Rimmer might start to bond more out of necessity now they are alone, but it was also probably necessary to have a good sitcom. Rewatching the first series made me realise just how cold their relationship was. You can't really continue a sitcom like that. Apparently Craig Charles and Chris Barrie didn't like each other during the first series either, so perhaps that played into it.

2021-01-12 21:07:35 +0000 UTCFunny cause I came into this hating Alan Partridge and loving Red Dwarf, but I've completely switched. I think Alan Partridge is really good, but Red Dwarf really disappointed me. I used to watch Red Dwarf as a kid, but it does not hold up for me. It gets better in the next series and episode 4 of this series is quite good... but on the whole It's not that funny. Where as Alan Partridge I just based my opnion on every time Steve tries to bring him back, it's never good. Now seeing the original show, it was genuinely great.

2021-01-12 20:52:33 +0000 UTCI agree. This is also one of my favourite episodes. It had a lot of the time on another planet and with them in the cockpit of Blue Midget so I guess it feels a lot like the later episodes.... Although Queeg is another great episode!
