Spoiler Free:  Decent episode to wrap up the first season.

Spoiler Alert !!!!   Spoiler Alert !!!!   Spoiler Alert !!!!    Spoiler Alert !!!!   Spoiler Alert !!!!Spoiler Alert !!!! Spoiler Alert !!!! Spoiler Alert !!!! Spoiler Alert !!!! Spoiler Alert !!!!

My prediction for this episode was pretty far off lol. I remember watching the dwarf/midget /elf conversation in a compilation. It's a funny scene without knowing the characters but it was definitely better watching the scene and knowing the characters. I love how interested they were in his little people/mythical creature knowledge lol.  I was joking when I said he's going to cry. When Gareth cried I was actually surprised, I thought he would at most ask to leave with Brent and spend a bunch of time trying to convince Brent to take him along. When Brent told everyone he didn't take the job I was very surprised it just seemed out of character. So when he was called out I thought ok that makes sense now lol. Dawn said she hopes she gets fired because it would push her to do better. She mentioned Tim’s advice that it’s better to be at the bottom of ladder you want to climb than halfway up one you don’t. With that being said is Dawn disappointed in him for staying because he inspired her to want more but he's settling for less? Is she concerned he’s just doing it for her and ruining his life? Just curious because of how the conversation went at the end along with her facial expressions. I guess I can wait and see in the next episode lol.

Thanks for watching folks !!! Hopefully, you all are happy, safe, and healthy !!

As always I would love to read your comments below

Very true!

After Work Reactions

Very true I totally see what you mean man. You can tell she has interest but doesn't think about breaking up with her boyfriend.

After Work Reactions

I know I am still looking forward to it though. Thanks bud!

After Work Reactions

Agreed!

After Work Reactions

And on top of that, so far she's clearly jealous whenever she sees Tim getting on well with any other woman in the office.

Jeremy O Dwyer

You mention her reaction, and while I know it's just characters in show, the thing that frustrates me about Dawn is that she DOES like Tim and she wants to flirt with him in a manner that suggests something might happen, but she also doesn't seem to seriously entertain the idea of ACTUALLY leaving her boyfriend for him.

Jeremy O Dwyer

Just realised you won’t get through these in time to watch the Christmas special before Christmas! Great reaction as usual Josh, can’t wait for you to watch series 2!

Jake Elliott

The "I must remember to thank him" line is absolute genius. Such a subtle joke.

Ian Webster

Dawn's reaction at the end was one of conflict because Tim leaving would have solved a problem for her as she wouldn't have him as a distraction to her rocky relationship with Lee. It was the first time she showed more than plutonic feelings for Tim in the series and highlights the brilliance, IMHO, of British subtlety in television making (a US show would have had to have had her explicitly stating that to another colleague in a other scene).

Steve King

I totally see what you mean. He did seem bummed about being stuck.

After Work Reactions

Thanks bud!

After Work Reactions

I totally agree man. It was sad but you can totally empathize with them.

After Work Reactions

Awesome man I am excited to check it out.

After Work Reactions

Awesome man, excited to start the next season!

After Work Reactions

Thanks for the info bud. I did really enjoy the first season but I am hearing the second is awesome so I am looking forward to checking it out with you all. I think we have all been in Tim's shoes so I totally know how he feels.

After Work Reactions

Looking forward to it!

After Work Reactions

LOL awesome thanks man!

After Work Reactions

Thanks man. I am enjoying it also so far. Both show are great. Take care.

After Work Reactions

Just love your reactions to the office... I think you're getting more into it as it goes on... The fact that we get to watch you watch the office and partridge at the same time is such a treat... Thanks mate

Nick

Just to repeat what Toby said, the man in blue overall (3:30) is Stephen Merchant's real father

Adam A

Season 2 is a lot more laugh-heavy, but also more cringeworthy in the best possible way. Every episode, including the Christmas special conclusion, is a masterpiece.

Jason

I'll echo what others have said. Dawn is disappointed in Tim. She was clearly going to miss him but was proud of him in chasing his dreams. She saw this as inspiring and hopeful and that she could follow in his example. When he gives up on them to say in a job he hates. It's like the wind has been knocked out of her sails. I think we get to see a real beautiful example of love in this moment. Whether it be friendship or the possibility of something more romantic. If Dawn had shown any small but cheeky amount of glee because he was actually staying. The impression of her character would be significantly different. I think it sends the nicer message that we want the best for the ones we care about and not what might be better for us personally. She also might be battling with how she really feels. All that from just one look. A great performance from Lucy Davis.

Daryl

I always thought it was odd they chose David over Neil but I'd never really thought of it like that. This was his second (and possibly last) shot at fame so he was desperately playing up to the cameras at every opportunity. He's not perfect but also deep down not a bad person and without the cameras around he probably wouldn't have be anywhere near as bad as he comes across.

Chris H

good episode

Leeroy Nabowitz

I never realised until I rewatched Phoenix Nights that he was Ray Von as well

Chris H

Totally agree. She admired Tim and seeing him quit his job to follow his dream inspired her and gave her hope that she could achieve her own dreams and escape the rut she was in. I always see that look on her face as her hopes and dreams being crushed in an instant. The acting in this show is great, I never get tired of watching the story unfold.

Chris H

The bloke staring at the camera “what’s wrong with this dude?” Is Steve Merchant’s dad!

Toby Lewis

Dawn was disappointed in Tim, completely dissatisfied that he didn't stick to his guns and aim higher, that's also what the end scene after credits was, just showing you Tim just slotting back in to the tediousness of his life.

NEXUS

Regarding being surprised that David was offered the promotion: Yes it is quite surprising, but there are a few hints across the series that David was actually quite good at his job before the camera crew arrived. He's always been a bit delusional and wanting to be popular, but it was the documentary that brought out his worst qualities, as he sees this as his chance to be famous and admired, so he gets more and more desperate to show off. Even his staff, who obviously thinks he's a bit of an idiot with his jokes, probably found him funny occasionally, or at least harmless. There's a moment in a previous episode where it cuts to a scene of David talking to the employees, you don't hear the full joke he's making, but you hear the punchline "It works with the turtle" and everyone laughs, implying that they have found him funny on occasion, but the camera crew cut that out, instead focusing on his more desperate qualities, which of course become more out of control as the series progresses. David Brent is all of the things he's presented as, delusional, selfish, desperate, sexist, insecure... but there is a bit more too him that the cameras don't always see.

Ben

Right dilemma time Josh A.) You stay in your current job for the next 10 years, but alongside you as a joint supervisor,is David Brent and Gareth is assistant to you both, then at the end of the 10 years you get $5 million dollars and can do as you please B.) Carry on as you are and turn down the deal

Andrew

In my opinion I think the office is a real master piece it gets better the more you watch it in fact I think watching it for the second time was better than the first and thats not somthing I would normally find. And the Christmas specials are definitely some of the finest television programmes ever. Wonderful wonderful show superb performances by everyone involved.

Brett watson

You got it spot on, Dawn expects more from Tim (he’s not Lee). She wants him to succeed for himself and to show her the way in her own life. They’re both stuck. This series has funny moments but it really is quite tragic. David Brent’s blind spot is a black hole and his desire to please the cameras just adds an unbearable added layer of cringe and makes it worse. Men like Brent fumble their way to the top. Whether through nepotism, the boys club, the only one crazy enough to take the position or just last man standing. There’s quite a few David’s out there! It’s why I love the UK edition of The Office, it really is more than a comedy. I think a lot of people in the UK really identify with the characters and their situations.

Darrell Pringle

By the way, captain, the bit where you are debating what Dawn's expression meant is why this is the greatest piece of drama since Hamlet.

Louis Hessey-Antell

Dawn has feelings for Tim too and she's not really happy with Lee and feels a bit trapped, Tim is a light in her life although she would miss him going she knew he was not happy at work and felt good for him that he was getting his life on track and maybe thought she and Lee would do the same, when Tim said he was staying and started to sound like David "pie " "vis a vis" etc i think she was horrified, Tim had changed for the worse he was trying to be like them, he was deluding himself he had given up maybe sold his soul, maybe moved on from her, maybe her and Lee wouldn't work out now, maybe she's realising how much she feels for him as he appears to slip away to become one of the office lads, what does that mean for her? What is she doing with her life? That's what I think Dawn is feeling.

Brett watson

Did you notice the guy Brent was firing at the start was the same guy he was giving a job in the first scene of the first episode? Also did you notice it's the same actor who plays Jeff (AKA "JEFF!?") from Peep Show? (Edit: I commented too early, it seems you did notice!)

Ben

Majority of the groundwork for the series has been laid now with season 1. Good foundation to build on for series 2 which just goes from strength to strength. Episode 1 is great, really looking forward to series 2

Danny

Dawn is sad that Tim is settling for being a cog in the machine. He saw her situation as a receptionist as similiar to Tim's, and she saw Tim planning on moving on and it gave her hope not just for Tim but for herself, hopr of moving to a ladder that she wished to be on rather than the one she was on. When she saw that Tim has decided to stay at the job he hates rather than moving on it hurt her, not just becasue Tim was giving up on his dream, but it's also in a way her giving up on hers. Dawn's motivation for leaving the company is gone, she wasn't fired, and her best friend in Tim is staying.

Spooony

"You see it's phrases like "sloppy seconds" which make her out of your league, Gareth." :D One of my favourite Tim lines. Good reaction, Josh! This is a pretty low-key season ender but I think Ricky and Steve knew it would only run for 12-14 episodes pretty early on and so I see this as a sort of intermission really between series 1 and 2. Series 2 is stronger IMHO, some stand out moments, very funny, sad, cringey, and quite dramatic. The series 2 finale is meatier than this one and the Double Bill Christmas Specials Finale (90 minutes altogether) is truly fine television. Think Extras Christmas Finale quality but different, and I think even better still. I so understood Tim's feelings for Dawn. I had a major crush on her at the time (I was 18!) and I'm now in my 30s and I haven't changed my mind! Haha! She is lovely.

Ash Jeffries

Can't wait for season 2. It's so good.

Andrew Manford

The man who just stares at the camera is Stephen Merchants dad 😂
