This was a hilarious , this duded started beef with farmers lol. When they were over the bridge I though they were going to dumb manure over him . I didn't expect a the dead cow that was great . I love how he's into lady boys and he said his assistant is a bit like a lady boy . So does that mean he's kind of into his assistant lol. This episode was filled with hilarious moments and I really enjoyed it .

Thanks for watching folks !!! Hopefully, you all are happy, safe, and healthy !!

She is a great actor!

I wouldn't entirely say American comedies don't have that type of character, for example you can somewhat see that type of more "unlikeable" or I guess unrelatable character, for example Larry David in Curb Your Enthusiasm I think takes on aspects of that, also some of the characters in shows like Always Sunny or Trailer Park Boys do this too - I do agree that they're not portrayed the same in American comedies though. Feel like the edges have to be softened a bit, more of a focus on them doing or saying actually funny things despite their "assholeness". Season 1-2 Michael Scott in the american version of the office is a great example of seeing it not work for american audiences, along with the transition into a more softened, rounded character in the later seasons. Quite interesting to see the differences in audience reception.

Yeah Saul I know what yo mean. American comedy’s really don’t have these type of characters I think that’s what makes British comedy’s great as they are always about the underdog and struggle if you know what I mean

ChrisW

I wrote this in a previous thread but imo he's the archetypal British 'charmless man' character. American comedy doesn't really have this kind of character, but the charmless man is the focus of all four of the new shows on this channel: as well as Alan The Office has David Brent, Fawlty Towers has Basil and Red Dwarf has Rimmer.

Saul

You need to understand the concept of the character. Steve coogan is a funny guy but he always plays ridiculous characters like misunderstood and a bit simple. Sorry I could explain it better if your audience were all English lol in English terms he’s a loser that thinks he’s better than he is

ChrisW

Linehan is a crackpot. He was banned for breaking the site rules repeatedly, he just wouldn't leave it alone. I'm actually a bit worried about him, his anti-trans activism has become an obsession.

Charlie

Graham Linehan and Arthur Matthews pop up in the next episode(I think) as Irish filmmakers or something. They're the guys who created and wrote Father Ted(Linehan then went on to create Black Books and IT Crowd, as well as a few other projects, and is currently banned from Twitter for reasons I think are a bit unfair. He has been rigorously criticising trans people for claiming they are real women, but he does so as a proper liberal not as a right-wing troll. I'm not entirely sure where I stand because I haven't researched enough to judge either side's behaviour but it seems to me that he's making reasonable points and the trans side has been pretty scorched earth with their responses to him.).

Saul

The guy with the voicebox is Peter Baynham. star of 90s Pot Noodle adverts and now writer of things like Bruno, the Alan Partridge movie and Borat, which earned him an Oscar nomination.

Neil J

Felicity Montagu is fantastic as Lyn. She doesn't get nearly enough credit.

Neil J

I am lol I do think it is one of those shows that gets better over time.

LOL so true man!

LOL

It's "We Need to Talk about Alan", a play on the novel "We Need to Talk about Kevin".

Manly Stump

When this series first aired in the US I was undecided and then this episode came out. From the lady boy story at the beginning to him getting the porn turned back on this episode is brilliant.

Bob K

Another fantastic episode, one of my favourites, can’t wait for you to watch episode 5 where he insults the irish, probably the best of season 1. If you get time i’d highly recommend his books, the 1st book entitled “I Partridge........We need to hear from Alan” is essentially an autobiography narrated by Alan himself, it is honestly laugh out loud comedy gold!

Scott Williamson

He should check out or add American Pie to the film list. Lots of bodily fluid humour. Not gonna spoil...its pretty hilarious.

Richard Carter

whats you're steam id josh :P?

TheHigh

Although, I will also add that I grew up around Norwich and most of our region's farming is grain, vegetables, fruit and pork. There aren't too many cows!

Joe Gardiner

The beef with the farmers came from the BSE scandal in the UK, where British beef was essentially being fed other cows in their feed. This caused a disease called BSE, or 'mad cow' disease. Beef imports from the UK were banned from many countries. This is why Alan is so opinionated on it :)

Joe Gardiner

when the poop hit oldboy in the face way you described him like a lost child 😂

Leeroy Nabowitz

Hahaaa! “...beef with farmers”. 😁

PunchyPariah

Once again Alan gets himself in a massive hole that he could easily avoid just by saying sorry. But instead he keeps digging himself deeper, hes one of a kind 😂

My favourite Partridge episode! Great reaction Josh! :-D I saw you noticed Chris Morris from The IT Crowd and Brass Eye but did you also notice Simon Pegg in this ep? This was 1997 so he was pretty young (26/27). The interview scene with Chris Morris is some of my all-time favourite dialogue, with Alan manufacturing ridiculous claims and Morris's unimpressed responses! "I bet I've got more friends than you have cows!" "This is ridiculous" "Come on, how many cows have you got?" ".....uh....um....I've probably got 100 cows." "Yeah? Well, I've got a hundred and FOUR friends!" :-D

Ash Jeffries

By the way, Geordie is the accent that Sarah Millican speaks

Carl-Fredrik L

Glad you're enjoying Partridge, I was worried as I'm not a fan of the first episode but I'm happy you're enjoying as it gets better and better, and you understand the patheticness of the character so well

minn

Great episode, one of my favourites. Alan's feud with the farmers would likely have just begun with him making ignorant comments on the radio during This Morning's Farmer (which like Alan's Fact of the Day and Telephone Cluedo is exactly the kind of pointless, meaningless segment you get on a lot of local radio programmes here) and then his arrogance and stubbornness making it impossible for him to apologise, so he just gets dug deeper and deeper into the hole he's in. I also don't think Lynn has a crush on Alan, she just lacks the confidence to stand up to him. You see her patience wearing thin with him sometimes, but she never quite manages to muster up the courage to stand up for herself and put Alan in his place.

Charlie

Thanks bud Yeah I noticed .I meant to add Brass Eye to the poll but forgot along with Toast of London. Unfortunately once it's posted Patreon doesn't allow you to edit polls .I will add it to the next poll for sure .

After Work Reactions

Not watched yet, but did you notice the farmer he insults in the interview is Renholm from IT Crowd? Also he's in all those comedy fake news show clips (With Peter Ohanrahanrahan and starting the War etc) - He also fronts Brass Eye which is some of the best, weirdest and funniest satire this country has ever put out. You definitely should add it to your list! Can't wait to see this one!
