ILLIT bomb EP Review | ReacttotheK Weekly #77

Just as the title track refurbishes an orchestral sample from an 80s anime, Illit's "bomb" mini-album brings a modern twist to classic dance music, causing Umu, Cloud, and Ju Young to draw comparisons to everything from Caramelldansen to SoBangCha. With funky bass and catchy, repetitive melodies, "bomb" wormed its way into our ears and hijacked our brains like some kind of musical toxoplasmosis.

Ooh, thank you for those song examples/references! I see the influence now :D

Great episode as usual, I love the EP and appreciate having new things highlighted like you always do. For the sample used in "Do the Dance", it reminded me of some of the stuff that Jens Lekman was doing in the 00s. He used a lot of orchestral/classical samples in his pop songs, sometimes also with the disco elements like in Illit's track. In his early tracks like "Maple Leaves" he would use a sample right from vinyl and then later he would record things with strings and horns that emulated those sounds, like in "Sipping On The Sweet Nectar". That last track reminds me of the musical universe that "Do the Dance" is in.
