2018-10-02 07:45:53 +0000 UTCevery protagonist needs a long term goal that is resolved at the story's end, along with smaller short-term goals. by having a clear idea of "what does this character want, and what is stopping them from attaining it?" throughout my writing process, it gives me a fairly focused approach. i never write in order, I will have the start and the end of the story more or less concrete, and filling in the middle comes afterwards. there are also "beats", or plot developments used to drive the story, you can use to create a timeline or framework. other than this, my writing method is fairly chaotic!! a few last tips: every scene must have an outcome that moves the story forwards. don't weigh yourself down with realism/accuracy; it's your world, your rules. don't edit as you write; sit and write the entire 1st draft, leave it, then go back and edit/rewrite afterwards. and be prepared to be heartless: if something just isn't working, cut it out. i hope this helps!

2018-10-02 06:29:25 +0000 UTCfor the most part it was looking at the art styles of artists/movies/comics I liked and trying to capture what parts I liked best in my own art. don't be afraid to (respectfully) reference others' work! lately ive been trying to capture the colour schemes of anime from the 80s/90s by screenshotting and building a pinboard, then creating palettes based off it. gather things that inspire you, create an inspiration blog, that sort of thing

2018-10-02 06:16:24 +0000 UTCjake loves hot sauce, will cover all his food in it until it tastes of nothing but hot sauce/pain, carries tabasco or sriracha around the space station in his pockets. though all the food on the station tastes like airline food so honestly it's a smart move

2018-10-02 06:10:55 +0000 UTCfor working w nib pens/brushes and ink, I think the main think I learnt was patience!! loosen your grip, slow down and really think about where/how you apply your strokes. and it pays to work left to right across the page (if right handed, reverse if left handed) to avoid smudging. as for my old characters, they always stick around in my head, it's mostly a matter of what's appealing to me at the time. maybe I'll revisit them soon...

2018-10-02 02:11:42 +0000 UTCIn term of story writing, how do you organize yourself to keep tracks of what you want and chose the outcome that suits the story the best ? I've had trouble with this aspect and would be curious to hear your insight on this question, if it makes sense to you ! Otherwise good choice about the new 10$ perk, hopefully it'll suit you ! Thank you for doing this Q&A :D
