Releasing the prologue concurrently with https://wyverncomic.com/
I had a PDF version of this chapter up for ages but I've since made extensive edits, and I want to have the pages up individually to match the formatting.
Chapter 1 was also concluded yesterday - upgrade to Ace tier for $3/mo to read ahead, see behind the scenes, or join in the character Q&A and get your answer doodled :}

With ch1 finished I want to give you guys a chance to send in some questions. Can be addressed to characters or to me, about anything you'd like, and I'll publish the answers with doodles. Comment below!
I'm also interested in any feedback you have on the side about format, accessibility, QOL for reading the comic on Patreon and on the website, any features you'd like, any specific content you want more of on Patreon etc... let me know your thoughts bc it's been a while since I asked :}

And thats it for Chapter 1! Wow!
I have a bunch of edits and general housekeeping to do here which will be happening next month. I'm tabling again at FurDU on the Gold Coast in a couple weeks which is also keeping me busy atm. Also you can start reading the updated Prologue over on the shiny new public website https://wyverncomic.com/
NEXT EPISODE: We're going to space

Totally fine...
Here's the slice of pizza without speech bubbles bc i think this is the first time i've rendered food up close in this style and i think it turned out not half bad. It's margherita.
Four pages left before the end of ch1... almost there...!

For minor context, in NSW you can leave school at age 17 after completing year 10, as long as you're going into further education/training/work, which in Sonny's case is joining ISA. Who needs a high school diploma to fly giant robots, anyway!

20 pages! Yippee! Although including the prologue it's more like 40. Yippeee!
The edit of the prologue is also about half finished - here's some of the new sfx lettering I've done recently:
Thanks for looking!
Sorry this one was late - I've been busy making a website for Wyvern's public release! very exciting! March 1st is the tentative date if I can get everything done over the next month. How is it already February....

Page 18! getting all my drawings of trees in now before I won't get to draw another tree for like hundreds of pages
Fun Fact about this page is that instead of Gameboys (cliched, nerd bait) I briefly considered having Atari Lynxes instead (a game system I actually used as a child), bc maybe this is an alternate timeline where Atari didn't die and the Lynx somehow outcompeted its rivals? Unfortunately the form factor of those things is so obtrusive that I felt even a redesigned version would be too distracting lol
Thanks for looking!
Been needing to make some advertising to have on my table at cons, sat down and ended up designing basically a rave flyer for the comic. The idea is that it'll fold out to be a poster as well :) I'm going to be handing these out at cons for anyone who buys my stuff.
I collect rave flyers and I'm heavily influenced by the style(s) so it was only a matter of time before my hand was subconsciously guided lol. I love collaging and fucking around with colour filters as well.
I'm also influenced a lot by the promotional design for Evangelion pre-Rebuilds. Some examples of posters below:
Thanks for looking!!
I'm slightly late with this page (I want to make Fridays my update day) bc I've been doing some con prep for Kaicon Twilight Sydney next week!! as well as the usual commission work.
Here's a sketch I did of the Brain as pictured above:
The Wyvern's main computer, which handles all of its flight, movement, and weapon systems. Sensor data from the Wyvern's body is transmitted electrochemically to the Brain, which processes it and then sends this information via afferent neurones to the pilot's central nervous system. The pilot is then able to mentally transmit motor impulses via efferent pathways in order to move and control the machine. Sensations such as sight, touch, hearing, smell, temperature, proprioception, balance, velocity, and pain are all shared with the pilot to varying approximations. The pilot is also given the ability to sense infrared/ultraviolet wavelengths, ionising radiation, magnetic fields, and other normally invisible phenomena when connected to the Brain.
Biocomputers are typically supercomputers, using either binary, quaternary, or octal numeral systems represented by synthetic nucleotide analogues. Programming "wetware" involves an amount of molecular biology expertise. Biocomputers are favoured for spaceflight due to their power, stability, reliability, storage density, and ability to self-optimise and self-heal.
Inspo for the Brain's design includes the Apollo Guidance Computer and probably a good amount of cyberpunk material![]()

Thanks for looking!

Happy holidays! We're just over halfway through Ch1 now. Sorry there's no robot yet, but you do get some people squabbling over the robot, which is surely just as good.
Thank you everyone for yet another year of support, and especially to all new Ace tier members. I couldn't be doing it without you.
See you next year! 🥳

And here's the full version of the cover art, painted in CSP. If you look through my archive, you can probably find that I've been refining thumbnails for this for years lol. Inspiration for the gravitational lensing effect struck when I saw the first image of a black hole revealed in 2019. There are a few different concepts in the story that I've been able to squash into this painting, and I'm excited for you to read and find out.
Wyvern will also be getting a public release as a webcomic early next year. I've still got a lot of writing/editing/page buffering to do beforehand but I feel like the ball is starting to roll.
Also, here's the title by itself:
Thanks for looking <3
Sorry Doctor, but your linear correlations are just too dubious!
Here's a little floor plan I did for Schroder's office and the adjacent lab, as a bonus
Page 12! Title drop!! For some reason CSP didn't want to put a page number on this one!? Oh well!!!

We're back to anime ace for the font... I'm sorry my beloved I could never betray you
page 11/28! fortunately this should be the last high intensity drawing I need to do for the chapter! also we meet Martin! yippee!
also here's the inks for fun
A completed painting/illustration for GH! I had a blast with this one and also tried out some new stuff. I used a matte painting method for the background using some royalty free images, and I'm pretty happy with how that worked out. It's also nice to do cel shading again considering I've barely been using that style. Working on my painting/lighting skills has definitely helped me improve.
I'm free for more commission work - email me at aschweinsberg.art@gmail.com for enquiries :}

VVVVRT
Wow I love big sounds. I might start using SFX for space scenes. Realism be damned.
I also drew Sonny's terrible ID card for fun today. He would get this one a few chapters in. Tough luck getting a reissue sent to the next galaxy tho :/
(Probably worth mentioning that any gun fetishisation comments i.e "oooh sexy" are going to make me feel weird and judge you super hard so pls don't do that :} <3)
Page 8! I did nottttt intend to fully render this page but this is arguably my favourite shot in the chapter. plus it's the first time you see Sonny in a cockpit, so i figured i'd make it look cool.

it was my birthday yesterday (i'm 28) so to celebrate have another page :) we're getting to the fun stuff.
here's a preview of said fun stuff:

i'm really grateful for all your likes and comments on the comic so far. i gotta admit that working full time on a solo project can feel pretty lonely, especially when i'm geographically isolated from other comic artists. its way too easy to get very in-my-head about my work, which i'm sure is a familiar feeling for many ppl. but there are always going to be moments where i think "THIS is why it's all worth it", and i wouldn't have those moments without all the people who take the time to engage with my art, who i meet at cons, who i even run into at the train station(?!!), all my friends and peers. sorry to be corny LOL but that's just what it's all about in the end, and i'll always be grateful. anyway, thanks for looking <3
