[Chance] Weapon - Blade of Exorbitant Wealth

This weapon's blade is forged from solid enchanted gold, created for no discernible logical reason besides the flashy display of wealth. Grooves in the blade indicate locations where sections of blade can be snapped off.

Blade of Exorbitant Wealth
Weapon (greatsword), uncommon

You have a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon.  When first found, this greatsword's blade has four solid gold sections which are worth 100 gp each. A section breaks off if you score a 1 on an attack roll with this weapon, or if you use an action to do so. Each time a section is removed, the greatsword becomes a different weapon in the following order: greatsword, longsword, shortsword, dagger. If you remove the final section, the weapon becomes a mundane hilt.  Over the course of 8 hours, a character using smith's tools can reforge a broken section of the blade by spending 100 gp worth of gold material plus any appropriate gp cost of the work.

THEME COMMENTARY

Welcome to April! This month's theme as voted on by the patrons is Games of Chance. I'm actually surprised this theme ended up winning because of how far removed it is from high fantasy, but it's quite pleasant.

While brainstorming for the theme, I realized that the proposed locations (a casino and a festival/fairground) had location-appropriate items, but those items did not necessarily fit the theme. One example is a strongman's hammer, which is found at a fair, but is considered a game of skill rather than chance. I took another pass at the brainstorming. I set aside the carnival ideas for a potential future theme and focused more on luck, wealth, probabilities, and betting. I considered going casino-only, but didn't want to betray what I assume half of the theme's vote went to. I think the gamblers among us players will really like these.

DESIGN COMMENTARY

This blade is a re-draw of my oldest items, updated with clearer/stronger stats and a much better design. I felt it was time given how well it fit the theme of gambling and wealth, and is a solid option for a minor magical reward.
