Idk how I feel about the graphics take, because on one hand, my absolute favorite game by far is Stardew Valley. On the other, I genuinely spent like 5 real minutes staring at that view from behind the waterfall in Uncharted.

The middle of this got a lot more boomer "back in my day" and privileged "What do you mean you don't have the same amount of time and energy to put into privilege as me?" than I was expecting. Not the frame rate stuff. That's the same thing as gym rats that think seasoning their food will ruin their physique. It was more of the complaints about accessibility and quality of life parts of games for personal preferences.

You can play a game on 30 fps just fine, the most important thing is just that the frame rate is consistent. If it's at 30 fps and trying to get to 60, it's gonna feel bad

My freezing cold take is: DLC means literally nothing now. No fps needs dlc especially if it’s for weapon skins. Everything needs to be an unlockable. What’s more fun than beating that super hard level with 1% health left? Unlocking a new weapon. A new skin. Your dlc should be free, or at the very least cheap enough for everyone to enjoy. I don’t want to spend $300 on one game just to have all the shit that should’ve been included.

Usually I can get behind Matt but him saying options are bad is actually insane, like let people play a game however they want. If they wanna be sweaty and get all that fps, awesome, if they want better graphics and don’t care too much about the exact fps awesome let them. Options are not a bad thing.

The whole talk about graphics is actually so real. Like all the indie horror games that use the older looking graphics are always so fun and usually have a unique twist. Like Chilla’s art games. They obviously put more effort into the gameplay and trying to create an atmosphere. While Having advanced graphics is a cool thing, sometimes we don’t need a “look how advanced this is” we need a “look how fun this is”

Hah, this was amazing! Also, completely agree with Matt here. 30 fps or 60 fps barely matters. It only really matters if you're playing competitive games. I've been playing Metaphor lately, mostly on my Steam Deck, where it struggles to maintain 30fps at the best of times. I've played it a bit on my PC, too, at 60fps+. Does not affect my enjoyment of the game one bit! Great games are great games. On another note, I need to buy UFO 50. Also, Silent Hill 2 remake is glorious. I'm curious about a Silent Hill 3 remake. That scared me more than any other game (the only other game that came close was Eternal Darkness). I wonder if that same claustrophobic, nerve shredding tension could translate into an over the shoulder 3rd person experience.
