It makes way more sense to roll your skill level versus a difficulty and allows for FAR more narrative game play. If you're not creative or not a good improvisor, then I can see how it would be rough. I have had so many situations in the ffg system where I failed a check but got enough advantages to make other cool things happen. Like on the brink of death and my last final swing of my vibro sword misses but I got a triumph. That allowed me to narrate hitting the ceiling and dropping down electrical wires that incapacitated the droid that was about to kill me. So much better than "oh I needed a 13 to hit but rolled a 12 boo hoo."
