Ex-Christian here, and my brothers and I were obsessed with this story about an assassin sneaking into the palace to kill the oppressive king then sneaking out and leading an army to take back their land. It’s a short story but it’s got a bit of everything, it’s in Judges 3.

The bit about training cats to navigate bombers during WWII is one of the best pieces of written comedy I have ever heard.

I always just assumed that any magical abilities or language knowledge were given to him when they crossed into the realm. Like Glenn's bardic magic and Daryl's strength and stuff.
