The problem with siding with Stannis is his bannermen already acclaimed him as King in the North. The Northern lords are willing to follow Ned’s son to death, but to follow him in bending the knee to Stannis after that is a much harder sell.

2024-12-07 18:38:13 +0000 UTCStannis is very stoic and pragmatic and is very ice cold. He's a complicated guy. But the war is now on four fronts: Renly vs Stannis vs Robb vs Joffrey. Of the four, Stannis has the most legitimacy, but the weakest positioning. Renly has the numbers, Robb has the morale, and Joffrey has the wealth. Robb is smart to choose Renly since the two were once allies anyways and Renly has a large army at his beck and call. In the short run, I say aligning with him works well in Robb's favor. Baelish's jab at Cersei, while spot on in being brutal was also very short sighted. He flexed, but she strong armed him back. I gotta give Cersei a W there. The slaughter of Robert's children is by far one of the most brutal segments of the show. You can tell most of the Goldcloaks hate what they're doing. Janos, their commander, was I think the only one who had no issues since he was getting paid to carry this massacre out. Given the ramifications on how pissed off the population of King's Landing was at the end there, it's rather obvious who ordered them to do what they did.
