Double post, but Barristen's threat at the end was not even a bluff, he would have killed a good few of them before he died, but most of the current Kings Guard are just pampered poodles for show. Meryn Trant for example aka the guy who killed the Water Master that defended Arya sent The Lannister soldiers to do his job for him before he attacked The Water Master, who was armed only with a wooden sword. Barristan and Jaime are the only current King's Guard worth their salt and stock.

2024-11-30 16:52:59 +0000 UTCJeffrey is a monster, but it's because he had an absentee father aka Robert and an enabling mother. Plus if you consider his genes, he was bound to be psychotic. He had moments where he was not entirely terrible, but he's let power and the words of his mother poison his mind. Is he redeemable? No. Absolutely not. But I do love the grey areas Martin makes with his characters. Ned for example sees Jaime killing the mad king as disgraceful and dishonorable even though the mad king was going to burn Kings Landing. When They spoke in the throne room, Jaime actually wanted Ned's approval, because he admired and respected him, but Ned did not give it to him out of his own personal pride. That hurt Jaime. Ned's a great man and a good father, but he's a fish out of water in King's Landing. So is Sansa and Arya. Loving that you're reacting to this show and I hope you had a good Turkey Day!
