Well given Elinalise's curse and her long life-span as an Elf. It's not surprising she'd have children, given that birth control in a world like this is probably quite primitive, if it exists at all. Personally this isn't one of my favourite episodes of this season. The execution felt a little shaky. Especially when compared to the ED arc of the first cour of Season 2. It feels like they were trying to stuff a significant event that was more well-executed in the LN into the confines of a single Anime episode. Making some of the conversations that happen in it feel a touch wooden or awkward. (I can't say for certain since I've never read the Light Novels myself).
