Wasn't it Flamme's parents that taught it to her?

I am a bit late for the party here:

Serie's a really interesting character to me. As you said, definitely not evil, but certainly someone to be wary of.

Serie suppressing her mana is equal to Frieren’s full mana. Frieren inherited her master Flamme’s rule of always suppressing her mana to a tenth of what it actually is & Serie was Flamme’s master. So if Flamme picked that idea up from Serie then there’s a decent chance that Serie could have 10 times Frieren’s full mana. Which would make sense as Serie refers to Frieren as “weak for her age” and “inefficient” and Frieren claims that Serie’s intuition is always right.

the imagery of Frieren making a field of flowers for Himmel is just beautiful honestly, I love the artwork in the manga, but seeing a field of glowing colourful flowers in the anime just brings it to another level.
The spell to make a field of flowers is probably one of the most important in the series when you think about it, it's one that's connected a lot of things and characters together, Serie taught Flamme it as her first spell, and Flamme taught Frieren it, who eventually showed it to Himmel to calm him, connecting them all together, and its the spell Frieren eventually uses multiple times in the series to make fields of flowers for Himmel's statue and other important moments.

The look on Serie's face when Fern can see the fluctuations in her mana, it's like "finally, a worthy student"
But, sorry Serie, this one's spoken for.
Also, Serie's mana suppressed is as vast as Frieren's when fully released. She could be a far bigger problem than the Demon king was. Thankfully she's not evil, just appears cold.

Serie is also suppressing her mana, and her control is even better than Frieren's, and Fern is the first human mage to see through it. So as much as Serie talked about it being an inefficient use of time, she still did it at one point in her life. Granted, she's much older than Frieren.
It also means that her "compressed" mana is as large as Frieren's total mana which shows the gap in power/experience. Although as Frieren said before, mana alone doesn't decide a fight, she lost to human mages that had less mana than her, not to mention hundreds of years less experience than her.
