2024-06-12 21:38:41 +0000 UTCDemons here are really interesting, instead of just being humans but with a distinct appearance plus some buffs here and there, they have very distinct differences to other races. For one thing they don't seem to be able to comprehend or express true empathy or lover for others. They apparently don't grow up in family units and the only reason they would show anything akin to human emotions is to trick humans out of a desire to kill or survive. Their nature is very different from (as far as I've seen) any of the other races. It makes them very unique to this setting.

Most series (with a few notable exceptions) make me roll my eyes when we get backstory in the middle of "the good part", but for this one I think it's all "the good part".

2024-06-12 14:39:13 +0000 UTCFrieren is probably my favourite character, her design is gorgeous and I love the way she thinks and acts (I seriously need to find a figure of her), she's a lot like Doom Guy and Goblin Slayer in some ways. It's nice seeing a series were the demons are actually evil and not just misunderstood, I'm so use to modern series "subverting expectations" and having demons be the actual good guys, so it's refreshing to have true demons. These ones genuinely don't think like us, they live on a pure logic based instinct to survive by any means and one other thing.

In a lot of anime Demons are basically edgy humans with horns, there really isn't much difference. This series really shows them as a completely different creature that is really good at imitating humans. It's like if you had a crocodile that was able to look like a cute puppy and learned it could get free meals by giving passerbys sweet puppy eyes.
