I think an arc way later on explains how Hades turned evil. I don't recall if it's specified or just implied. But that's for a later time. Jellal goofed. He was too careless in his pursuit, not only that but his sus on Cheria was wrong. Still Yajima bought him some time. But yeah with all the mystery going on Raventail was barely worth worrying over in the end.
