october update!

that said i don't really have any spooky things planned exceeeeept i am going to try to release a few games on GOG, a pet shop after dark included ๐ so if that comes out it'll be my spoopy present for everyone.
my schedule for the month is
- working on gog releases! did you know that gog releases are all very manual - like i am doing an email exchange with gog staff people to get these games released & the builds are all manually checked & stuff, it's wild
- i want to make a bitsy game for bitsy fest (https://itch.io/jam/bitsy-fest)! i have such love for bitsy & this time is a special jam apparently - if any of you are interested in making bitsy games i highly recommend checking it out ๐
- continue working on marron & hopefully make a new demo for zentame, which is a game event i'll be exhibiting in next next week
- a postcard for all of you as usual โจ
i'm feeling a bit worn out overall recently so i am also going to try to take it easier probably until the end of the year. (just some lingering health issues that have sapped my energy & make it hard to focus on things.) i want to get marron done though because i've been slowly working on it for so long... we will see how the progress goes.
(on a separate note, the patreon redesign is really weird & it's hard for me to navigate. i am typing this post now & i don't even know how to add tags to this post. the font is also different that it used to be & i don't like it... hopefully i get used to it.)

"changes without reason or improvement" is a good way to put it - i'm sure patreon management think there's a valid reason/improvement but right now i don't see it ๐

That's wrong, change without reason or improvement just drives people away. However, nobody tells them "no" because it keeps them employed and working. At least that's how it usually went when I worked in an office!

I'm guessing they removed it for a similar reason as to why they removed goals, as that also disappeared in the same update... Sometimes Patreon will talk about their design decisions on news.patreon.com, but I can't find any mention of these ones.

This was removed sometime last year in another of Patreon's redesign attempts. I was kind of annoyed about it. You can't see it if you're logged in, but if you're logged out, it's visible. As a simple workaround without logging out, open a private window in your browser and go here: https://www.patreon.com/npckc To open a private window in Firefox, try CTRL+SHIFT+P. For Chrome-based browsers, try CTRL+SHIFT+N.

That's just, not something you can see on desktop (or, I guess, the website in general) for some reason?? Again, not something patrons should be looking at with any frequency, but it's just weird that it's app-only (although maybe they've gotten rid of that, too, now!! I don't use the app anymore so I wouldn't know pff))

2023-10-06 03:04:38 +0000 UTCTo be honest, I've never been a big fan of the Patreon design. I've always found it convoluted as a user. The one nice thing about the new design is adding the Settings button to the sidebar. I could never find it before! If you want to change the font, you can always style the CSS yourself. If you're on Firefox, you can use your userContent.css file and add styles for patreon.com. If you're on a Chrome-based browser, you might try the Stylus extension.

Certainly probably better than the sorta thing you gotta deal with for Steam and Google Play, I assume, since you're directly contacting a person, but I guess I wouldn't know for sure!! Hopefully the pet shop is made available in a timely manner!! And AAAA BITSY. I made my first bitsy game a bit ago and.... dang, being free to just make very minimalistic sprites is so freeing, pff. The toolset is also super simple, though I think it'd be nice if it had yes/no prompts of some kind (presumably forks have that. Maybe I should use forks in the future.....) BUT ALSO HOPE THE MARRON EXHIBIT GOES WELL!! And hope Zentame is fun as heck as well!!! Additionally hope October's kind to ya. Guess September really was kind of a rough month in a lot of ways, but now.... spooky month. Please be relaxing, spooky month..... (And yeah..... I've seen a lot of folks point at the new Patreon icon and go "this is disgusting. Horrible. Ugly. Patreon is ugly" and I'm like "I feel like this is.... hyperbolic and also missing the stuff that actually sucks (like the feed section just being really quite bad now and aaaAAAAAA NOTIFICATIONS WHAT THE HELL. I already really disliked that Patreon made it so you can see if a creator likes your comments, but now we're informed of literally every individual like..... It's genuinely kind of miserable to me.)" Such is life I suppose, but, like...... bleck. I'm mostly just bothered by people hyperfixating on the icon change I guess, because that's not even remotely what's affecting the platform...!!!) ANYWAY THOUGH YES.
