2023-06-17 19:32:22 +0000 UTCPersonally my favourite was Balalaika as Hansel and Gretel's Mother. I'd pay to see a whole spin-off series of just that. (Also it's kind of a blink and you'll miss it kind of detail, but I believe Balalaika's husband in the skit is supposed to be Mr. Chang. Though it may also just be a stereotypical Japanese Salaryman). Also a bit about Bao (the bartender from the Yellow Flag the bar the crew is so fond of destroying) in the Youth skit needs some explaining. Bao is part of a group of defeated South Vietnamese soldiers that fled Vietnam after the war was lost there. Those guys were basically the nucleus of what ultimately turned Roanapur into the crime-infested shit-hole that the characters all live in today. So the Bao we see is him still in the South Vietnamese army.

2023-06-17 18:58:27 +0000 UTCCouple of notes, the girl in glasses from the scary stories episode wasn't Roberta, it was the yakuza high school girl from the second half of season 2. And the reason the final short was so bizarre is because manzai doesn't translate super well in our culture. It's an old, traditional form of Japanese comedy with a two man group similar to Abbot and Costello with the funny man and the straight man, but....well, we haven't really seen that used basically anywhere since those two, so it's fallen out of fashion over here while it's still thriving over there. And depictions of it in anime tend to really ham it up and make it stranger lol.
