A YEAR OF SPRINGS was on tv

so actually yesterday A YEAR OF SPRINGS was on tv (for like a very very short bit, maybe a minute).

the picture's a screenshot from the show!

the experience was actually pretty rough for me though so i don't think i would do it again. the people who came to interview me were kind of pushy & even when they were asking questions, it felt like they had very specific answers they wanted me to reply with (so kept asking the questions but in different ways to try to get me to answer how they wanted, i guess), and in the end the sections they showed on the show were not the ones i would have gone with myself.

(also one of the staff who came to my home to film turned off my humidifier/air purifier without asking me........ i have it on for my guinea pigs....... i would have turned it off if they asked me to but they just pressed the power button without saying anything which kind of annoyed me................)

BUT it was an interesting experience i guess and the nhk staff gave me macarons when they visited so there was, at least, that! and i can now cross "be on tv" off my checklist (:

what was interesting to me was how fast-paced everything is (or last-minute might be a better way to describe it). up until the day before i was still getting emails asking me what copyright should be shown while gameplay was being shown and they mentioned they didn't know what clips they would use yet either. it was all very hectic!

now i can get back to my own regular programming though and focus on game dev again!

edit: aaaand i just noticed they left out the final S in A YEAR OF SPRINGS on their web article so i emailed them to ask if they can fix it so the title of my game is spelt right 🥲

edit 2: oh i forgot to mention the whole time they told me it was going to air on feb 14 but i only found out on the weekend before that it was actually airing on the 15 (and that was from the website, not from the staff!!!) and only on monday, two days before it aired and a few days after the programme was announced online, did i get an email from the staff telling me that the airing date had changed...

edit 3: something nice came out of this! one of the presenters on the show did a youtube live after and talked about A YEAR OF SPRINGS with some very kind comments so i feel overall better about the tv experience too: https://m.youtube.com/live/y72TbUKwbdY

They sure sound pushy! I love how you're treating the experience though, like "eh, wasn't great, won't be doing again". Hope the macarons at least were the good kind!

Lera

thank you! i think it was a good learning experience for me so overall still glad to have done it at least once (: the rushed pace of tv is just not for me.

npckc

Sorry they treated you that way. That sounds pretty gross :<

Kioku

from my experience, being shown in media pretty much never really makes a sizeable impact on sales unfortunately haha

If only I could see the interview. I’m curious what journalistic angle they took with the interview. Positive, negative, neutral? Would be interested to hear if average sales of the game go up after this coverage.

CrossfireCam

yeah unfortunately i don't think it's available to view unless you're an nhk plus subscriber! and i think you can't subscribe without actually having an nhk contract, which i don't think is available outside of japan. i hope you can go too!!

I wish the clip would be available outside of Japan!! Even with a VPN, I don't have an NHK account. It would be fun to get to see you on TV :) I am excited for more people to know A Year of Springs! One Night, Hot Springs is a game that meant a lot to me as a trans femme when I first played it. I really like the idea of travelling and being able to go to onsen someday, but I have always been nervous because of my body. But your game makes me think maybe someday it will be possible that I can fulfill this dream and still be myself. And I hope it helps other people who are not transgender to gain empathy and understanding. <3

TheRecognitionScene

omg sounds stressful, but thank you for sharing your story. congrats on the milestone :D

Mary

EH!? What the hell... Sounds like, something of a miserable experience, but at least it's over I suppose. AND YEAH!!! An achievement has been made, which is very cool in and of itself!!! B-But, what the heck. All of that sounds......... HMMM..............
