1-year anniversary for A YEAR OF SPRINGS
Added 2022-05-14 13:06:07 +0000 UTCtoday is the one-year anniversary for A YEAR OF SPRINGS. i've written up a postmortem which you can check out on itch.io: https://npckc.itch.io/a-year-of-springs/devlog/380144/a-year-of-springs-1-year-postmortem
i just want to say thanks to all of you here though, because honestly i don't think the game would exist in the way it does without you. i never really intended to make more than the one game (one night, hot springs)... honestly, ask the me of 2018 and they would probably be shocked i'm still making games, since i didn't really think it'd be such a big thing for me as it is now.
a big part of the reason i'm still making games & A YEAR OF SPRINGS exists is that people like you here play my games & support me - & that gives me so much motivation to make more things because i want to share the ideas i have in my head with you! it can be very lonely just creating into a void so your support here means a lot.
so as an addendum of sorts to the postmortem, just wanted to thank you all for being here & for playing my games 💜

thank you! i think it's important to have stories which share the pain/discrimination people face in real life but i agree with you that sometimes they do feel needlessly painful. i think it can be cathartic to make media like that too though (expressing the pain that you felt in a space you feel safe to explore it) so i'm glad these media exist too, just it's not something i personally want to make so i really appreciate your comment & i hope i can continue to make games you enjoy!

2022-05-15 11:43:24 +0000 UTCkc, congrats! I just wanna say, I really love your strategy of discussing a lot of heavy stuff while still making sure people (hopefully) feel good at the end. I feel like with a lot of queer media, creators like to either lean into the pain and discrimination real life queer people face, or make queerness in their stories very matter-of-fact and universally accepted. And I like a lot of those stories, but the first kind tend to be needlessly painful, and the second kind sometimes feel like they aren't engaging with what queerness is actually like in the real world. All that to say, I really love how you threaded that needle. Making your main characters all so thoughtful and supportive in the midst of an unkind world was exactly what I was looking for. So, thanks! I can't wait for your next game~

2022-05-15 00:11:03 +0000 UTCI somehow forgot this launched on my birthday. I'm happy to see you continue, you're the first developer were I can say I really enjoy all of your games. Which is why I've spammed recommendations to all my friends and followers for years, I really hope at least a few came over XD Seriously, thank you for continuing to make games. Some changed my life for the better, some were just really sweet little experiences. All of them come from a rarely heard perspective. So I wish you the best, can't wait to see all the ideas you'd like to share. I hope that's many more years to come, I'll keep watching and trying to share with people. :)
